I wounder what I would be doing now if I still lived where I was born?

When I was a kid my dad was in the military. We lived in far north Queensland, in the middle of nowhere.

That's awesome. I grew up in a suburb, but have lived in the country for quite some time now. I love nature and outdoor activities, and even planted a garden this year. I don't think I could ever live back in the city, it all seems so claustrophobic.

People laugh at me, because I complain about the traffic driving into the city for work, and they remark how much worse it is in bigger cities. Yes, I know, but you get spoiled when the worse traffic jam you encounter driving home is something like this.

@TamAngel That's a classic, loved ya little yarn.. we often come across that when we're up the high country camping.. The other girls in the car carry on, WTF how's he going to get past.. I always laugh & say relax max... chill.

We'd only used the cruiser (big 4x4), to tow the big boat to the ocean... 14 miles return trip.. I never remember passing another car. Or to do trips up into the mountains... You'd pass a track sign saying, Rocky Creek Track, Dry weather only, very dangerous climbs & descents, loose rocks & landslides, Turn radio to channel 12. A typical drive would consist of my dad on the 2 way radio, e.g.
Dad.. Anybody on rocky creek track, anybody on rocky creek track, over
Voice.. Yeh, I'm on rocky creek, east bound, over
Dad.. Is that you Clarkie, over
Voice.. Yeh Trig, how ya go'n mate, over
Dad.. Yeh, good pal, what's ya 20, (location) over
Clarkie.. Come'n across dead man's (a very dangerous river crossing) what's yours, over
Dad.. Yeh mate, westbound, bout 2 mile from suicide's (a very steep climb to a bluff where the track is one way & many people have driven off & fallen nearly a mile into the bottom of the gorge because of meeting oncoming cars) anybody in front of ya, over
Clarkie.. Haven't seen no one, got the kid with ya, over
Dad.. Yeh mate, over
Clarkie.. Ok, I'll prop here, (dead man's creek) the kid can have a swim & we'll knock over a coldie, over
Dad.. sounds like a plan, see ya on the down side, over
Clarkie.. Copy that

Occasionally we'd come across overseas english speaking tourists that would hear the radio conversation.. we may as well of been speaking Marsion, hahaha.

We'd drive to the air strip to pick up our groceries.. they'd get delivered every 2 weeks.. weather pending.. to bad if we forgot to order anything.

There were 9 kids in my class ranging from prep to grade 6, I was the only non aboriginal. ☺
