Free speech being the right for anyone to share their opinion, no matter how right or wrong they are.

Absolutely! Even if one is using hate speech - and I mean real hate speech, not any so-called "harmful opinions" - it's still well within their right to say it.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
As long as it doesn't promote violence. The problem with quieting ones we disagree with is....how will you know who you disagree with if they can't speak?
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
@FreeSpirit1: Agreed….with limited/rare exceptions, there should be freedom of speech.
twistedrope · 26-30, M
@FreeSpirit1: 1984, a great thought provoking but very boring and at the end downright violent book. Probably one of the inspirations for the MKUltra program. This booked was banned in the US in the sixties during the Cuban missile crisis.
Good book. Meant to tell the story of how a totalitarian regime could brainwash and control its populace by torture, electrocution and tv.
My point is however to mention, in light of such a book. Is the problem with quieting ones we disagree with, or that humanity is weak and easily controlled?
I'm just tryna say, free speech being about who you don't agree and will probably argue with. Is a very petty way to view the issue.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@twistedrope: I was giving one example, there are many of course.
Capricorn · 46-50, M
Yes, everyone has a right to an opinion
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@Capricorn: And to voice that opinion.
Capricorn · 46-50, M
@Sicarium: absolutely. It's simply debating things. There will always be opposing ideas to every subject you can think of
UserNameSW · 46-50, M
An opinion is never right or wrong.
Everyone had the right to any opinion.
Everyone has the right to voice that opinion.
xmedleft · 51-55, M
@UserNameSW: But SHOULD every person with an opinion actually go through with voicing it?
UserNameSW · 46-50, M
@zmedleff1: they can't be forced to voice anything. They are allowed to voice, if they choose to.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
Yes, everyone has free speech. And everyone else has the same free speech rights that they can then use to respond to idiocy.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
Hell yeah, free speech is hate speech too
twistedrope · 26-30, M
Nah. Most people just shouldn't say anything at all. They say their opinions as if using them as conversation tools. They're extrapolations, I'd find it much more prudent if they had stated their experience rather then the conclusions.
xmedleft · 51-55, M
I believe in free speech as defined by a combination of the Constitution and the Supreme Court -- therefor slightly abridged by the Swinging Fists doctrine, the Incendiary Speech doctrine and the Yelling Fire example.
MegaManX97 · 26-30, M
I mean, people are entitled to their opinions, and free speech allows me to counter and shit on said opinions.
Everyone has the right to an opinion. I have the right to tell them why their opinion is dumb!
