Absolutely! Even if one is using hate speech - and I mean real hate speech, not any so-called "harmful opinions" - it's still well within their right to say it.
As long as it doesn't promote violence. The problem with quieting ones we disagree with is....how will you know who you disagree with if they can't speak?
@FreeSpirit1: 1984, a great thought provoking but very boring and at the end downright violent book. Probably one of the inspirations for the MKUltra program. This booked was banned in the US in the sixties during the Cuban missile crisis. Good book. Meant to tell the story of how a totalitarian regime could brainwash and control its populace by torture, electrocution and tv. My point is however to mention, in light of such a book. Is the problem with quieting ones we disagree with, or that humanity is weak and easily controlled? I'm just tryna say, free speech being about who you don't agree and will probably argue with. Is a very petty way to view the issue.
Nah. Most people just shouldn't say anything at all. They say their opinions as if using them as conversation tools. They're extrapolations, I'd find it much more prudent if they had stated their experience rather then the conclusions.
I believe in free speech as defined by a combination of the Constitution and the Supreme Court -- therefor slightly abridged by the Swinging Fists doctrine, the Incendiary Speech doctrine and the Yelling Fire example.
