Maybe she needs you and worries you will leave and she will have nobody or nobody as qualified to take over your roster.

I had a performance evaluation recently. One thing we need to do is attend lectures and/or take classes, as part of "training." I see a lot of it as a waste of time and as distracting me from getting my work done. I finally told my boss how I feel. He agreed a bit about what I was saying, since he has to do management training which he does not always like. But that is how it is. That's the job. Higher ups want it so we must accept it. He encouraged me nicely to attend more lectures. I said I would to keep people happy. It is frustrating now because I am struggling to get my work done. They helped by reassigning some of my work.

Taking classes would be tough now, though, due to the budget situation (I am a federal employee and we are on a continuing resolution which means we must get by on last year's funding levels, even though there is inflation in operating costs and even in salaries that must be covered). We can only take free in-house classes taught by coworkers, now.

I just want to say "Fuck it!" at times and retire. Too young and too poor. Ugh.
