...and times, for being a Sheffield Wednesday supporter....
That's the UK's football (ie, REAL football, none of your namby-pamby helmet-and-pads-picking-up-the-ball-and-running-with-it-NFL-type !) team, from my home town of Sheffield...
Rubbish season; deducted 12 points at the start of the season for 'dodgy dealings/finances', only for that to be reduced to 6 points....a rubbish, covid-sapping-no-supporters, series of games in which we couldn't win/leaking goals and it all ended up. do or die, with the last game of the season against the team in which resided in my old stomping grounds - Derby.
They had a pretty rubbish season too - lots of 'of the pitch' stuff revolving around illness, non-payment of players and pride - and, like us, they had to win this game to stay up and not be relegated to the next tier of football.....or, at the very least, draw...
Excitement watching the match....we scored first! Yay! Delighted. Went into the half-time break very happy. Played pretty well (for this season, for us!) and then the 2nd half started.....a quick goal by Derby to level things up. Shit! Then another quick one to lead....
It was all starting to look bad. Then.....we scored....to draw equal......then we scored again! I nearly threw my cuppa all over the place. it looked like we were going to stay up...
Then....disaster. About 10 mins before time, Derby scored....making it an equal 3-3....making it, with other games going off around the same time that we were dependent on, that Derby stayed up.....and we were relegated...
Pretty devastated. We put up a hard fight.....but just couldn't see it through...
I was not a happy bunny......drowning my sorrows with a few bottles of wine....
Obviously, didn't work last night......woke up with a bad head.....and a hug from my 2 fav girls....
@BridgeOvertroubledWaters Indeed. From last year (or was it the year before? hungover head!) being around the play-offs to this year's relegation....phew! Hard for a gal to take! The wife pretty much left me to it, drowning my sorrows, and just giving me a little hug now and then....
I'm ok today....Sheffield Wednesday'll be Ok......just a blip...
@BridgeOvertroubledWaters Well, that's karma for ya! I was willing them bad luck and, ha....[i]hoping[/i], that we would play them again this next season....
So....y'know....that didn't quite work out right! Lol!
