There's a trend lately to blame everything on economic differences...violence? It's because of lack of money. Crime? Lack of money. Academic underachievement? Lack of money. Great way to justify launching new government programs that often turn out to need overpaid administrators, but the truth is a lot of society's ills are down to a breakdown in community culture and an upbringing of civic responsibility.
Proof? Look at the Amish, they live like they are a hundred years poorer in terms of opportunities and technology, and yet they have very peaceful and cohesive communities. They spend all their time regulating their culture so corrosive elements do not gain traction
