Am I a grumpy old man and a problem customer ?

One of my local supermarkets has adopted a stupid (in my opinion) method of counting how many people enter the shop during this whole pandemic. They are demanding that every customer who enters must take a clothing peg which is drenched in disinfectant from a bucket at the entrance, carry it around the shop and hand it in at the exit again.
This is a modern supermarket with all the electronic bells, whistles and surveilance cameras etc. but their high tech method of counting customers is clothing pegs drenched in slicky liquid...:-)

Over here they use baskets for that. You'll need one of them anyway, so why not limit those instead of clothing pins?

That’s really stupid as the customers may drop or not care about it anyway. It’s a nuisance. They can have 2 staffs, one at entry and one at exit count them manually if they can’t invest on technology. They can rotate the staffs to do so.

Gotta admire the ingenuity. A unique approach.

What they should do is grab a roll of gift wrapping ribbon off the shelf and, wearing gloves and mask, snip off as many lengths as there are customers allowed in the store and tie a jaunty bow around one ear of each permitted customer. When all the beribboned folk are gone, they cut more ribbon.

Seriously, I think we have to make an effort to be cheerfully cooperative. Or shop somewhere else. Or propose an equally effective, economical way to do it.

Most irritating to me is the libraries are closed to browsers. You can order curbside service but it's simply not the same.

But it's worth a life or two, I think.

A clothing peg ? God it’s all trial and error in every country right now isn’t it. Nobody actually has a clue on how it will all eventually play out. It’s all just take each day and think of this method or that solution.

Sorry your experience is so muddling or stressful for you.

Yep indeed. I was thinking of Black Mirror earlier.... bizarre times were living in. That’s why a sense of humour and thoughtfulness/common curtesy go a long way in this situation.

Yep and my peg fell the other day and someone else picked it up for me and was like here you go...so whilst I appreciate the gesture it did kind of defeat the object as now we had both touched it and it had been on the floor.

@Wraithorn most the stores I go to operate a queue in and queue out situation.
So I dunno why its so hard.

You let 5 in at a time then shut the door. It's a one way system when you go in.
You pay you and wait at the door for security to open the doors...

@Wraithorn This being 2020 has abosutelyno baring on this. Sgop being entitled brats who think ever store should have so many bells and whistles you no longer have to push your own cart.

They made a simple system to keep.track easily. They did their job. Get off the high horse.
