@SW-User yep i was surprised my mom says she remembers her dad having one on a vacation in 95 or 96 when he was on call in case his work needed him

They were available in the 80's, but didn't really take off until the 90's, when the phones started getting a lot smaller, and the cellular coverage started getting a lot bigger.

I had a bag phone in the mid 90's that I'd carry with me in my truck. There weren't many cell towers around in the rural areas back then.

My mom had a cell phone in the late 90s. Once I found a brick cell phone in my grandparents attic. Not sure who's it was.
