I Have Praise for President Trump!

The president is expected to or perhaps has now signed the PACT Act today, a bill that makes intentional cruelty towards certain animals a federal felony. The bill passed with bipartisan support in the House last month, and the Senate on Nov. 3rd.

Even a broken clock is correct twice a day. 😊
@GrinNude That's more often than he was right, but he was right on this one.

@LordShadowfire follow the news!

He has a few problems now..

Why the hell is this 2-year-old post showing up in my feed? Who's in charge here?
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@LordShadowfire Probably because there were responses to someone's reply an hour ago.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
Thank congress for that, not Trump. It's a no-brainier.
Piper · 61-69, F
@hunkalove I'm giving him credit for signing it, IF he has. Haven't been able to confirm that, yet. He had nothing to do with any part of the bill, except for that.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Piper is it now law?
Piper · 61-69, F
@samueltyler2 Yes. It has many exemptions, but it's still better than nothing.

I had to be a political cynic, he doesn't do things just because they are moral and ethical. Prove to me there is no hidden agenda for him.
Piper · 61-69, F
@bijouxbroussard Yes, that was quite notable to me...also. So is how people who call themselves "pro-"life", value the lives of embryos and fetuses incapable of feeling or thought...more than the lives of living, breathing sentient beings.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Piper and vote against improving the quality of life of children, vote against expanding Medicaid, vote against funding day care, etc., etc.
Piper · 61-69, F
@samueltyler2 Yeah, and etc...😐
The bill passed both chambers unanimously. Even if he vetos the bill congress would just override it anyway and pass the bill. Trump is just a tool in this situation he hates animals as evident by trying to repeal the Endangered Species act.
Piper · 61-69, F
@PrincessVelvet It did. I was wondering when I first learned that the bill had passed unanimously, whether some special interest group would talk Trump out of signing it. He has made it very clear through both words and legislative action, that he has little regard, respect or concern for the lives of animals.
BlueVeins · 22-25
I have a whole big list of policies that I like from Donald Trump, and another list of policies that I dislike from Donald Trump. And while the latter is much longer, he certainly has thrown some serious curveballs in there over the years.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@samueltyler2 No, I can't imagine a better proof that Ukraine needs weapons, than for a fascist dictatorship to invade them. Jesus Christ.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@BlueVeins I thought you listed only defensive weapons for Ukraine, it now says lethal, that was not something done by tRump.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@samueltyler2 Yeah, the weapons Trump sent only fire rainbows and love.
Peapod · 61-69, F
I am overjoyed about this. It is about time we take animal cruelty seriously. How it wasn't a felon before is a mystery to me.
Piper · 61-69, F
@Peapod True, and for victimless crimes. Unlike Michael Vick for instance, who ended up not even being convicted on actual animal cruelty charges...and only spent 18 months in prison. The he whined about not being able to have a "family" dog, and was not long after allowed to. 😖
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Piper, I will never forget that POS!! He got off so easy for his violent crimes. Uuugh.
Piper · 61-69, F
@Peapod He got off disturbingly easy, I so agree.
SW-User
That's good
Piper · 61-69, F
No. I'm long over any little hope of ever being pleasantly surprised by anything Donald John TRUMP says or does. Except for him actually signing the PACT Act bill.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Piper What about withholding military aid to Pakistan?
Piper · 61-69, F
@BlueVeins Oh MY, I'm going to going to go ahead and delete that comment that makes no sense...here on this post of mine. 😬
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
I am sorry to say this, but, given his attempts to roll back many environmental protects, I wonder why he favors this while he wants to allow industry to dump poisons into the water and poison animals and humans? How does it benefit his personal wealth.

I sit on several environmental and climate committed nationally and on my state. He will be ultimately responsible for the extinction of many species!
Piper · 61-69, F
@samueltyler2 I am sadly aware of Trump's abysmal environmental actions, including those towards the protection of and treatment of wildlife. I would add to that his attempts to...and success in pushing for further destruction in our few remaining 'protected' wild places.

I'm giving him credit and "praise" for signing this long obstructed bill. I had been wondering if he would be influenced to not do it.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Piper did he actually sign it?
Piper · 61-69, F
@samueltyler2 Yeah, he was scheduled to sign it around the time I submitted the post. He signed it.

His son slaughters endangered species FFS! 🤦‍♀️
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Harriet03 Credit where credit is due, though.
Piper · 61-69, F
@Harriet03 So sadly true. Both his sons do, but Jr. does seem to have a bit more lust for killing them. I hear Jr. is under some scrutiny again, for one of his latest endangered species kills.

Trump's record concerning wildlife protection, is of course abysmal.

Only took to the year 2019...
we passed that shit decades ago 🤔

Let’s not mention halal slaughter tho🤫
@Piper exactly.. animal cruelty bad.

i havnt seen much worse then halal slaughter..

funny how profits get in the way of morals
JimminyChristmas · 56-60, M
@Piper I was referring to his way of responding, not so much to the content of the main post.
Piper · 61-69, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout We definitely do agree that animal cruelty is "bad". Atrocious, heart-sickening, and abhorrent too.

I'm glad to say I've not actually witnessed halal slaughter in real time, just read and seen enough details about it to know it would be disturbing to me to see it. Would be for kosher slaughter also, and what goes on regularly every day...in any slaughter house.

Yeah, "funny"...
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I'm not sure what I am happier about: cracking down on animal cruelty or the fact that a bill can still get bipartisan support these days!
Piper · 61-69, F
@DrWatson Both things are nothing but great, for sure. Amazingly enough, this legislation got near unanimous bipartisan support twice before, but was repeatedly blocked by one charming fellow who happened to be the House Judiciary Chairman.
Conservative talk show host Michael Savage has been pushing this for a while, and someone on Trump’s staff passes this along to him. Savage is also to blame for pushing the “Hunter Biden is a crook” theory that led to Trump’s call with Zelensky and ultimately his impeachment.
Piper · 61-69, F
@LeopoldBloom I did not know, that Michael Savage had been pushing this bill. That would be because I do not listen to, read about or ever even hear much about what he is saying. If he did have a part in Trump deciding to go ahead and sign it, I'm just glad that he did sign it. Interesting, though.

What I DO know, is that it is two "Reps." from my state, who re-introduced the bill earlier this year, after it had been blocked at least twice before by a Republican who was House Judiciary Committee chairman.
@Piper Savage is an atypical conservative in that he is big on animal rights and has a low opinion of hunters.

I listen to Savage occasionally because in most areas, he is very dialed in to conservative trends.
Piper · 61-69, F
@LeopoldBloom I see. So is the conservative and Republican who is one of the two Florida congressmen who reintroduced this bill, earlier this year; Vern Buchanan. He also cares about environmental issues, to some extent.

I'd have to agree about that being atypical for Republicans, in general.
WellFrog · 56-60, M
One of the few actions backed by Trump I could support on a personal, or indeed any, level.

Yet he has also made overtures toward overturning the Endangered Species Act, so that does rather undermine any connection to the above beyond, as you pointed out, his signature.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@WellFrog and his son shot a "wild animal,"
Piper · 61-69, F
@WellFrog I can understand that, on a very personal level.

While I'm painfully aware of many things Trump has both proposed and done as far as environmental and wildlife actions/policies, I was glad to be able to praise him for something.
Piper · 61-69, F
@samueltyler2 One son and "wild animal"?
He had nothing to do with that.
Piper · 61-69, F
I am aware of that, @MsAnnThropy, except he DID sign it.
@Piper Not out of necessity or importance. But to save face. He’s doing the same thing now with the whole police thing.
Piper · 61-69, F
@MsAnnThropy I suspect he signed it not just because it passed with unanimous support in both the House and Senate, but because it would have looked "bad" if he had not done so. The abhorrence MANY voters feel towards intentional cruelty inflicted on certain animals, at least, is obviously not a 'partisan' issue.

As I mentioned before here, I'm giving him credit and "praise" for signing this long obstructed bill. I had been wondering if he would be influenced to not do it.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
That would be a pretty bizarre thing to veto.
Piper · 61-69, F
@QuixoticSoul It would not have surprised me at all, if someone had talked him out of signing it.
JoePourMan · 61-69, M
This is great
Piper · 61-69, F
@JoePourMan Yes, it was great that he did go ahead and sign this long delayed action.
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
You mentioned Kosher practices being cruel.
What exactly is it?
Piper · 61-69, F
@Dainbramadge It is basically the severing of the trachea and esophagus of an animal, and them bleeding out.
@Dainbramadge halal certification

@RogueLoner Okay. We absolutely agree on the lifetime of some kind of probation part, in regards to deliberate cruelty/abuse to most any animal. That, and the animal abuser registry attempts that have so far mostly failed to pass in this country.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@RogueLoner, I agree with the life time probation. These are very deviant type people that don't get reformed easily.
