Men are born for games. Nothing else. Even a child knows that play is nobler than work. He knows too that the worth or merit of play is not in the game itself but rather in that which is put at hazard. Games of chance require a wager to have any meaning at all.
Games of sport rely on the pride of victory and the humiliation of defeat and these in themselves are sufficient stake because they adhere to the worth of the principles and define them. But games of chance or games of sport all things aspire to the condition of war, for that which is wagered here swallows up game, player, all. War is the ultimate game, because war is at last a forcing of the unity of existence. War is God.

@morethanLes Well... For example, if you observe someone who is arrogant, brags about how rich he is, and goes out of his way to show and talk about his material possessions in a "show-off" way, that behaviour suggests something I would think. That's different from someone who is down-to-earth and uses his success in a more substantive way.
