Any Ghost Towns near where you live?(both)

Royal Hotel in the Ghost Town of Linda. On the outskirts of my home town, Queenstown Tasmania

My grandpa lived in a small village that is considered a ghost town. It had about 100 people, mostly elderly farm couples or widows, living in it in the mid-60’s. There was one small white church, a general store that had been built in the 1800’s, a beautiful blue bank that had been closed since the 1950’s but kept painted up, and about half the homes were abandoned....they had been bought up cheap by a businessman when the railroad closed up after WWII, people moved out. He said that more people would be moving back and he’d make a fortune. Very few actually people moved there, disabled Veteran’s families (property was cheaper than nearby places), a family who’s father was in the military (he sent money back for them to live on) and one family with a teacher and teen daughter, they moved out to be closer to a school. There was an old blacksmith shop that was built in the 1800’s, a farmer bought it and used it for mechanic shop when he needed to work on his farm equipment. We found an old brick 2-story school with antique desks in it one day when we walked to the other side of the railroad. And there was one old Victorian abandoned home across the street and we’d go inside and play sometimes, lace curtains still on the window and an old piano in the parlor. The man who bought the houses died in the late 50’s and his widow lived in a modest little frame house on the edge of the village. Most of the homes had outhouses for toilets, wood-burning stoves for heat, and were really simple...

@Gusman I’m sure there were other ghost towns in Missouri. During WWII these little towns depended on the railroads to haul the grains and other farm crops (cattle etc. too) to market. Gas was rationed and tires for vehicles were rationed and hard to get. So they used the railroads & the railroad towns flourished then. There was a big mule farm about 30 miles away, farmers bought mules and used them to plow the farmland and also used them for transportation. After WWII ended tires and gas were easy to get and the railroad closed up, jobs were lost and people moved away to find work elsewhere leaving it a ghost town.

@Gusman The famous outlaw, Jesse James, rode through this little village in the 1800’s after he robbed a bank. I guess that was the most newsworthy thing that ever happened there.
we have Centralia Pa not far from here where an underground coal fire has been burning for years. there are now fewer than 10 residents left

@saragoodtimes Those underground fires can not be extinguished. Will burn for years. Some great photo opportunities
@Gusman think I read it can burn for 50 more years being fed by coal in the mines under the town

Near where I'm from there's a village called Ropotó, a sinking village that was abandoned in 2012 due to landslides. The most famous ghost town/ island in my country, though, is Spinalonga, where lepers used to be sent.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@HannibalAteMeOut Have you been to Spinalonga?
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@Gusman unfortunately, no, I hope when I visit Crete I'll be able to go there.

House I grew up in had a feeling to it, the house I live in now doesn't. Sometimes it's just that simple.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Allelse I was fascinated by my "Experiences". Never at any time frightened
Allelse · 36-40, M
@Gusman I didn't like it growing up. Not that I blame them, rather that it's an untamed land there. The two valleys either side of the hill, one cave in each valley. One cave which is open and bright and sunny, the other dark, and dismal with the paintings on the wall. Not to mention the hole in the cliff with the old bottles and stuff down it. Something about that hill it drew things to it, they went and then they left.

The photos are from the not so happy cave and looking down into that valley you couldn't even know the cave was there, but nope, it's down there. And walking down there you feel wrong, not dread exactly just wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong and you shouldn't be down there.

@Allelse can I ask where this is?

There is a haunted abandoned mental asylum in the northern suburbs of Melbourne called “Larundel” we went there one night 10 years ago, my mates were too chicken shit to walk inside the building, I went in, didn’t see ghosts but heard weird noises which gave me a fright lol.@Gusman

@Gusman *beam* my most recent one was thinking about an animal spirit for the LOML (love of my life) -I suddenly thought of a walrus. The website I landed on basically quoted me directly on what I say about him leading with the defining feature being kindness. The next day another friend sent me a gif of a nodding walrus. Suddenly walruses were everywhere.

@SW-User Seems to be the way of us "Sensitives"
I use that word because I feel that is a way I describe myself.
I feel "vibes"
SW-User
@Gusman Yeah. I've had a few psychic episodes and 'encounters' but generally it's just 'feel' -I also get a bit spoiled by synchronicity sometimes 🙂

One of the reservoirs that I fish was actually a mining town that was flooded to create the reservoir. You can still see the homes and the church underwater on the echo sounder.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SW-User That would look really weird on the sonar screen
Take a picture and frame it.

WOW!👻I'd love to look around there. I lived in a haunted house for 3 years and have had hauntings for years even before that.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Peaches There were plenty of "Ghost Towns" on the West Coast of Tasmania.
Loved exploring them as a teenager

Not a ghost town but an abandoned orphanage said to be haunted
SW-User
@Gusman woah I'm definitely getting a vibe from that place
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SW-User I loved it.
The character has totally been destroyed by the $10 Million renovations of the new owner.
He bought it as a holiday home.
SW-User
@Gusman Wow. Yes the whole land has been tamed from a really wild feel. Would have loved it then.
