If you could retire right now, where would you go to live?

I’d go either further north or further west (I’m in Virginia now.) Some place with less humidity, that’s for sure.
SmartKat · 56-60, F
Adding onto my own question: I want a place that’s not too country or old-fashioned (I’m a city girl), and a moderate climate and low humidity. I was in New Mexico a few years ago and I fell in love with Santa Fe....hmmmm.

@SmartKat Everyone's business on the Internet concerns me lol

I could have seen me in the desert Southwest also. The cost of living and medical providers mean a lot to our situation. @SmartKat

Colt 45 and a bag of weed,
that's all we need lol

I'm in Virginia myself...My wife and I live in the rural area of Southwestern Virginia surrounded by farmlands, forests, and mountains, but have both lived in towns all our lives (and still do). We like it here in the general area, but if I could retire and we could afford it, we'd find us a house and property that is outside of the city/town in the country surrounded by peace, privacy, and nature instead of traffic and people just feet away all the time. If it meant moving to another part of the state to do that then we would.
ash365 · 26-30, T
@indyjoe I'm from an area of southwest va with lots of privacy, down in the blue ridge mountains, very beautiful remote areas. I moved to northern VA, it's so much more crowded on here, there is literally not a moment when there's not someone within a few feet of you. I'm considering moving back down south, but the job market is so terrible, it's one of the reasons I left.
indyjoe · 56-60, M
@ash365 Yeah, the job market sucks here where we are, but I have been fortunate in that respect. We live on a corner lot and we have people walking up and down the sidewalk a lot, and streets as well as neighboring houses within 30 to 50 feet on all sides of us. We like the house we live in...just not it's location.
SmartKat · 56-60, F
@ash365 I’m originally from NoVA. I miss everything about it - except the traffic and the high rents. But you pay for everything, one way or another. Places that are cheap to live usually don’t have many other good points.
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
I would probably stay in the same area (in Minnesota), but move closer to the lake. But if I had enough money, perhaps I could buy a second home somewhere down south. Maybe in Costa Rica, if possible. I once went on vacation there, and it was beautiful - and warm. If I could stay there during the coldest part of the winter, that would be great.
I would stay where I am. Maybe travel a little.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
I live in Maryland.

When I retire I want to move someplace with a shorter winter (or no winter cold, at least) and lower humidity. Maybe the southwest?
SmartKat · 56-60, F
@JoyfulSilence I like MD, myself. As a native of NoVA, I’ve spent a lot of time there. But the humidity!
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@SmartKat Yes, I cannot stand the humidity. But I like forests. I wish I did not have to give up forests just so I do not sweat. Although there are pine forests in the mountains out west. Yet also 10 feet of snow in winter up there! Ugh.

I lived in Fairfax for 11 years. Before that I went to UVA for graduate school. But I grew up in Ohio and went to college there, too.

@ChampagneOnIce Plan on "shaking things up" in you autumn years?😄...seriously I've traveled there before and it is beautiful.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@indyjoe I lived in Southern California for over 30 years. I miss the ocean and love the Central Coast.

I am retired and live in the state I was born.
However, I'm not happy with their antiquated laws and would like to move to a state where recreational weed is legal.

I'm not stressing,
I'm waiting patiently, but I feel I'm in Russia or some other communist country smh

I always said if I were to move from where I live now I would move to Virginia. That is some beautiful country.
I spent some time in Richmond area on Skyler Mountain. Loved it.
SmartKat · 56-60, F
@Dainbramadge Interesting - I’m from VA, ha ha. I don’t dislike it....there are things I like, things I dislike...like anyplace else.
RealtaReoite · 61-69, M
Somewhere in or near the mountains -- Alberta, probably. Canmore might be nice. Beautiful warm summers, snowy winters. Perfection. But... oh... the property values!!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Love right where I am. But a holiday place in Port Douglas would be nice to dodge the winters.

I want to check out Vancouver but I don't know if i would retire there. Close to the Rockies on the ocean side.
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
I’m staying where I am which is a few hundred miles north west of you.

Regardless of it's now or in 6 years, I'm retiring in Costa Rica.

I’d continue to flit between England and Hong Kong as I do now 🙂

I'd like to stay here in The Driftless. I can do the few weeks of summer swelter in exchange for the lush of this place.

Did you know that DC, NYC & Baltimore are all Top Ten least humid cities in the US?
SmartKat · 56-60, F
@hlpflwthat 😱 DC, Baltimore and NYC are the *least* humid cities? WTF??
hlpflwthat · M
@SmartKat Ikr?? I was surprised - and looking for the least humid option, which is Vegas. Won't work for me - I love water too much!

@hlpflwthat Well, I would consider Denver or Salt Lake City. I loved Santa Fe, NM when I was there a few years ago.
