Just to add to my comment.. babies smile and are happy, it's one of the first things they do.. smile at people - this demonstrates the human capacity and ability re happiness..

The fact some Caliph wasn't happy isn't surprising, I was reading that the more material possessions we have, the more choices we have - the less satisfied we are..

I have always felt that being rich doesn't bring happiness either, perhaps related to the above, the more money you have, the more things you buy to try to make yourself happy, the more shallow and less genuine it all is..

Well it would be scary if it had any basis in truth.. fact is even animals can show happiness.. and humans can and for the most part do..

You know..i just checked out the author. His profile picture speaks a thousand words itself. People were shooting for happiness before the positive thinking industry took the world by storm. You simply know when your life is on the right track. Obviously nobody is happy all the time but if us humans beings are able to feel that wonderful emotion, why on earth wouldn’t we pursue it?

I wouldn't call it scary. I originally discovered this concept through the works of Arthur Schopenhauer. We aren't born to be happy, and knowing this has helped me to accept a lot things in my life.

I've always known this deep down.

Happiness is transitory, short-lived, grumpiness however can last a lifetime.

Don't believe it, they can say what ever they wish doesn't make it so.
