If you were enrolled in martial arts as a child for the purposes of self-defense, can you recall a time you used those skills?

The odd part about martial arts is that most disciplines teach not using it. It's very confusing for a kid.

My dad refused to let me take martial arts for self defense because, as he put it, “you’ll hurt someone”.

So essentially, my father would rather I get beaten often enough to smash someone’s head in with a rock, than to allow me to learn to defend myself without causing actual harm.

I began doing martial arts at 7 years old.
And still practice them at 68.

As self-defense, wich is not the only motivation, I used it in few but important, critical instances.

No I wasn't. But plenty of the little bastards used what they learned to bully and beat up over kids.
