What is the value of a life?

A human life, an animals life?
OwnerOfMany · 90-99, M
I realized a long time ago that life had lost its value to man when I heard the term "acceptable losses" applied to soldiers.
OwnerOfMany · 90-99, M
@GlitterBug Imagine how it feels when you ARE a soldier.
GlitterBug · 22-25, F
Oh I can only imagine. My father was in the navy, he almost did die. To think someone would call him an acceptable loss is just insane to me. @OwnerOfMany
SW-User
@GlitterBug Many would. I don't feel how Canada portrays lost is fair, you are okay?
SW-User
life doesn't have intrinsic value, it's entirely subjective. like anything else, really.
SW-User
Whatever value you decide to put in it. It isn't something set in stone. You decide the value of something, but it can't be expressed numerically or anything. Maybe just in terms of its relationships with others. "My mother matters more to me than my goldfish." "My goldfish matters more to me than that other goldfish."

@SW-User Which is important but I do gather feel sad.
QueenPeach · 26-30, F
Seems like nowadays there’s no value. People don’t value anything but their lives and their families.
SW-User
17.3 years. Apparently. that's a startling statistic, the average time in prison a person will serve is only 17 years for murdering someone. Shut up that can't be correct. Right from the US federal bureau of justice statistics..
SW-User
But if we cheated our government of a dollar or two they’ll lock us up and flush the key.@SW-User

@SW-User true. Sad.
SW-User
That’s how they view justice my friend. Only works for those with wads of money.@SW-User

The body, the cover, the vehicle.
Are inhabited for a short time, the time, is no issue, only to those left behind. When the body dies, it's gone onto the next, they have moved on.

The sadness, is not with the body that died, the sadness is with the family, friends they left.

So to die, for oneself, is with one self.

Then use the time you have, to be happy, with it all.
This illusion, of time, of space, will pass to.

Value sounds complicated and personal.

A human life always has more value than an animal.

@GlitterBug
I can see the funerals for police but not dogs. People are much more important.

Dogs are dogs.
They can’t help if police put them in the line of fire.
It has more to do with police cowardice than dog bravery imo.
The police do it out of guilt.
LucyFuhr · 56-60, F
I suppose that would depend on the life and the person/animal living it.
SW-User
@GlitterBug There's a question one makes one life worth more than the other?
GlitterBug · 22-25, F
Is there? @SW-User
SW-User
@GlitterBug Not one I see, but seems offered up on here all the time
apalebluedot · 41-45, M
Some animal life is more valuable than human life. I certainly don't value a serial killer's life. And if a person is made happier by being with their animal friends than human friends, hey that's fine.
Ian123 · 61-69, M
Wait until someone you love or a pet dies and you will find out
GlitterBug · 22-25, F
I don't have to wait. @Ian123

@GlitterBug Am sorry to hear that
SW-User
I see strong value in those I care about, but show very little value in my own.
SW-User
It would be whatever it took for someone to keep them alive.
