Prom Contract: Can I sign for my parents?

I really want to go to my senior prom, but my parents won't allow me due to religious reasons. I'm going anyway, but there's this contract my parents have to sign (they won't sign it) and I was wondering if I can just sign it myself since I'm 18.

Well you’ll have to ask your school if you can sign for yourself. Some schools here allow it but it varies place to place. Or just sign their names on it yourself.

@SW-User My dad is very manipulative. He wants me to be home all the time and never leave. He doesn't even want me going away to college, and to make me feel bad about it he called me selfish for wanting to go away since my mom has cancer (she's actually getting better now). He also won't let me get a car (even though I've saved up for one and can help pay for the insurance) because that will give me more freedom. If I only have the ability to use my parent's car, that puts on a lot of restrictions for me.

Probably against the rules, but I'd sign it anyway if it were me, it's cruel you not being allowed to go to the prom' 💜

I mean, I'm guessing you're from the U.S.

If you are, you can sign yourself. I started doing that as soon as i turned 18, lol

OMG you should go.. its your prom... they wont let u go because of there reasons and not yours. this can cause some bad feelings to grow down the road. what kinda religion wont let u go to prom?
BlackBloodDemon · 22-25
@SW-User I come from a Seventh-Day Adventist household that practices the Sabbath from Friday sunset - Saturday sunset. My prom is on a Friday night, so it interferes with Sabbath.
If in doubt, check with your school. They would be best placed to advise on such matters.
Talk to a guidance councilor, you are an adult.

@MarmeeMarch and my oldest sister is also currently pregnant right now (she's 27). How can I be a 50 year old man and have a 27 year old sister? I'm the youngest of 3 (2 older sisters: 27 and 21).
@BlackBloodDemon 💆‍♂️

That'll be down to your school's rules but if you're 18 you should be able to go to prom without parental consent.

Surely if you are 18 and as such an adult you can
BlackBloodDemon · 22-25
@SW-User would I sign my name or my parent's name?
SW-User
@BlackBloodDemon Your name and then you are not pretending to be someone you are not
BlackBloodDemon · 22-25
@SW-User that makes sense. Thank you xD
If you are 18 are you not considered an adult by law ?
BlackBloodDemon · 22-25
@MarmeeMarch Yes, I am that's why I am asking if I can just sign the papers myself for a school function.
@BlackBloodDemon why dont you ask the school ? How are we supposed to know what your school policy is 🤷‍♂️
BlackBloodDemon · 22-25
@MarmeeMarch I already asked my math teacher (she's the one in charge of the prom) and she said "as long as there's a signature" 🤣
SW-User
If you're 18 you can just sign it yourself you're legally an adult in the US.
