My knees hurt a lot after jogging, am I doing something wrong?

curiosi · 61-69, F
It's common, some have knees that just can't take the pounding from jogging. Check your foot wear as the proper shoe can help
Neena · F
@curiosi Thank you. I hope if the shoes is comfortable and fitting it should be fine. I don't know what else to check. It has been more than a month that I have developed this pain and I have stopped running too. I wonder how long it normally takes to complete get recovered.
curiosi · 61-69, F
@Neena Soak in a bath with epsom salts. Epsom salts send magnesium to the area as it is absorbed through the skin and helps healing.
Neena · F
@curiosi Thank you so much. I'll try that out.
Abbyrose · 22-25, F
Always warm up before, and stretch after. If you’re sore after, ice always helps 😁
Neena · F
@Abbyrose Yeah that's one thing I ignored.
Abbyrose · 22-25, F
Don’t wait until it’s too late! Our bodies are not as invincible as we think they are. It took me knee surgery to realize that 🙌 @Neena
Neena · F
@Abbyrose Sure. Thank you for the heads up. Hope your knee is fine now.
Make sure you are wearing the right foot wear...
Neena · F
@submissivelittlewoman Thank you. I hope right means comfortable and fitting.
@Neena it should be made for running...not just walking. It should give you the right support.
Neena · F
@submissivelittlewoman sure. I'll take care of this.

Have you considered swimming instead? Jogging puts a lot of strain on joints etc.
Neena · F
@Quizzical Yes I did. But I love running and I'm out of it for nearly two months.
HerKing · 61-69, M
Is it local to a particular area in your knee? I had a sharp pain when running and it was diagnosed as a piece of cartilage broken off, I had day surgery to remove it with the warning in later life it would possibly lead to arthritis...not wrong, I have it.
HerKing · 61-69, M
@Neena Pain is telling you to stop...So don't run until you get it at least x-rayed.
Neena · F
@HerKing Surely. I'll make sure of this. Thank you.
HerKing · 61-69, M
@Neena 🙂

Stop jogging on your knees
Steve42 · 56-60, M
Rather than slamming your heal with each step trying to roll your heal, or try to impact toward the front of your feet. Doing leg work at the gym and adding muscle will also help the knees.
Neena · F
@Steve42 Surely, I will try. Tank you.
Steve42 · 56-60, M
@Neena Those things helped me when I was a distance runner. The idea is avoiding slamming your heal with each step sending the shock up to your knees.
Neena · F
@Steve42 That's a good suggestion. I don't run but I walk nowadays and I put conscious effort not to press my heals first.
ISeeYou · M
It can be the way you run. The common suggestions given are not to overstride and not to lift knees when you run.

Do also check if arthritis is not common in family and take precautions to strengthen muscles around the knee.
Neena · F
@ISeeYou Thank you. There is no family history of arthritis. It was just that I over ran. Bit now it taking a long time to recover.
ISeeYou · M
@Neena Give it some rest and there are usually coaches who help during many marathons in India. Check for someone in your city. They can guide you.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Neena · F
@MarkPaul will work on that. Thank you.

I WISH MY KNEES HURT AFTER RUNNING

Whenever I run I get allergies and I just ran and now I got two tissues double-fisted up my nose. 😑
curiosi · 61-69, F
@Chaoshead Honey from your local farmers market is like a miracle for allergies. Take a teaspoon or two a day and you will build up immunity as the bees pollinate those things you are allergic too the honey will strengthen your system.
Neena · F
@curiosi Thank you.

@thatotherguy5719 Probably yes. I consulted a physio. She gave me a list of excercises. It's just that it is taking too much time to recover and I am worried. I want to get back to running as I started loving it.
How long you been jogging for? How many months or years?
Neena · F
@Teggy I was not a regular runner. But when I started running it did it continuously for 3 months, until pain developed. And now I am off it for nearly 2 months now.
@Neena get proper running shoes and your muscles haven't had enough time to develop to support your knees while you run.

Shoes make a world of a difference when running longer distances.

Proper runners usually cost a small fortune but your body will thank you long term.
Neena · F
@Teggy Thank you. I will take care of this.

I tried running again and decided to go around a track at the back of my old house. I did one lap and ended up on the floor after horrible shin splints pain. I couldn't even stand up. Some people are not runners, me included. So now I ride a bike. I can see more, get better exercise and have a no impact exercise. Give it a go.
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
Try knee pads
Neena · F
@AlienZipper Thank you. I am using that now. I am worried about it taking so long to revover.
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
@Neena

You might want to wait a few days before you jog again.
abe182 · 46-50, M
Jog on your tip toes.
Neena · F
@abe182 Will try, thank you.
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
