In 1974-1975 Joseph James DeAngelo was the Visalia Ransacker while being a Police Detective on the task force pretening to try to catch himself. He looted over 100 homes.

In 1976-1979 Joseph James DeAngelo raped 50 women and killed several people as the "East Area Rapist" while working as a cop in nearby Auburn, CA.

Would they have caught the rapist and stopped the killings if they hadn't looked the other way when evidence pointed to a cop?

Note: I saw a TV thing about this case 3 years ago and my first reaction was, "This has COP written all over it."

Finally in April 2018 some detectives lead by a female from the DA's Office finally tracked down the DNA evidence and arrested DeAngelo. It took so long he can't be prosecuted for over 100 burglaries and over 50 rapes.
