It goes beyond just a "rule" to break or not...Photography is often forbidden because over time the light from flashes (especially when it could be excessive like when a constant parade of people are viewing something) will actually damage something that they are trying to preserve. Another reason is trying to prevent possible exploitation and even piracy. There are legitimate reasons for that rule....I always abide by it myself just out of respect alone.

@Elegy that wasn't my point, I was actually asking if people take photos of things that are forbidden to be photographed. I'm not a rule breaker but sometimes I wish I was, especially regarding this subject (about photos).
