Toothbrush/Toothpaste

Why do we call the object that we use to clean our mouths a toothbrush, and why do we call the material that we smear on the brush toothpaste?

To me, toothbrush and toothpaste seem like terms that would be used by people with horrible dental programs - people with just one remaining tooth.

I think that, for the majority of people, the objects should be renamed a "teethbrush" and "teethpaste".

Any other similar wrong-sounding words that you can think of.

Pass them on - along with a short explanation if needed.
