Hypothetical: it's happened. Robots have taken most of the jobs and humans are out of work. What do you do with your newly gained free time?

Assume some social net is in place to provide basic needs and you won't just starve in the street. Do you bury yourself in entertainment? Or do you get bored and pursue projects of learning our productivity? Do you waste away our do you their without a career path to define you?

not sure if you know but that already happens since many decades ago. robots run our lives and without them our civilization wouldn't be possible. they do take most of the jobs and yes humans are out of work because of it. what happened? they changed to other jobs. duh.

@unknownpoetx that's how everyone doesn't die in the street. I'm trying to ask how they spend their time without work.
unknownpoetx · 36-40, M
@ViciDraco again. read about it. there's many full scale experiments. http://basicincome.org/news/2017/10/overview-of-current-basic-income-related-experiments-october-2017/
most people keep working. others do other things they want. not sure if you know but there's life besides work. basically people do what they already do when not working -.-
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@unknownpoetx I do know. But many don't. When I talk to others about UBI they always throw out that people will stop working. Other people claim that without work, people grow depressed and have difficulty finding their own purpose in life.

So I wanted to start up a conversation about what people would do if they did not have jobs to get more neutral opinions straight from people and avoid triggering the UBI is socialism stigma. Because once we start talking about UBI we start talking politics and stop talking about free time.

Why do you assume the worst about someone's knowledge set all the time? I'm more often in agreement with what you say in general, but you have a way of bringing things off topic and assuming ignorance of people trying to bring the discussion back on topic. It can be very grating.

@ViciDraco what else would I do?

The robots will probably be doing that too pretty soon.

you do realize automation's been around since the later 19th. century?

and it doesn't take jobs, it creates, get with the times or cost the taxpayer's money.

(where have most of you people been? ???)
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@sighmeupforthat the automation before was muscle automation. It handled horsepower and precision. New automation is mental and creative. It is the mind that is being automated, which opens a whole new world.

and if you want to know read about guaranteed basic income
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@unknownpoetx that's one way to address meeting needs. My question was more to dig into whether people would sit around and do nothing or go out and try new things.

With no job, no money, most people would just die!
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@SW-User read the extra blurb. We're assuming basic needs met.

Study Robot engineering 😜
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@Picklebobble2 will you be a better robot engineer than the robot engineering robots? Or just use the knowledge to take advantage of them?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@ViciDraco Use the technology to see if i could enhance the human experience.
Find out what being human really means in a psychological/spiritual capacity
