How have you behaved when pulled over?

I'm not friendly with them, but not hostile either. No sudden movements. Probably not a great idea. People get shot for less.

One time when I first started driving, I was about 19, just started college. My mom's "friend" Vera was dosing her with her kids ridalin. Got her to give her money in her compromised mental state. This is the cause I was given, but anyways, mom had a psychotic break.

Slow, subtle, even amusing, at first. She was behaving strangely, obsessively, progressed into thinking there were listening devices in the walls. She made my best friend and I tinfoil mind read blocking hats, which we wore and laughed.

My stepfather got fed up and left. Later that night, she mistook me for my dead father, called the cops. One to either side of the door, guns unsnapped and hands on grips, ready to draw. I talked them down, but they must've been coming off shift or something, because instead of taking her to psychiatric observation, they put her in my car and gave me directions.

Way out in the county, 2am, I get lost. I spot a cop talking to a gas station attendant. I pull in to ask for directions. Mom reacts wildly, jumps out of the still moving car screaming, Help! My son is trying to kill me!

Cop puts my mom behind her, gets on her shoulder walkie, calls in reinforcements. I stop the car, get out. 2 more patrol cars zip in. 4 cops get down behind their open car doors, all 5 guns drawn and aimed.

Exhausted, numb, shoeless. I slowly raise my arms and say, My mother's gone insane. Please don't kill me.

Jeez. Life is something else. Smh

You were so young. I am glad nothing extremely bad happened.

I treat them coldly, give them a blunt face when they make jokes. I am fine with female ones.

@Miram Yes I was still a kid basically.

I'm more world wise now.

And more handsome 😏
Miram · 31-35, F
@DanielChristensen No doubt. Men get handsome as they age, we get grumpy.
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@Miram lol you're going to get more grumpy? *backs away slowly* ;)

I was actually appreciative of the time I was pulled over as I had no idea that my tail light was flickering instead of staying lit. I was polite, officer was polite. All worked out.

@Tinkerhell I'm glad it was all copacetic

Ohmygosh, what a time you had! I did enjoy reading about your adventure! Lol

I am just 'ok' with them.
I was pulled over about two weeks after moving to NJ. He was very rude, but I kept calm. It was my tinted windows. Not allowed to have the front ones tinted, only the back. I didn't know and the people at the DMV never said a word, nor during inspection, which I feel is wrong. It's sort of a scam to try giving people tickets. That didn't work with me. After finding out I hadn't even been there a month, he just advised me to get the tint off. I never did. It was the small town I had gone through, which I found out they were a$$es there. 🙄

Holy -shit-! That's uh... wow. How did everyone come out of that incident?
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@CountScrofula Well mom lunged for the shotgun in the first cop's cruiser, which she refuses to have done, but she doesn't remember like I do, and was restrained. After being put in the backseat cage, she raged wildly about 30 seconds, then lay down and went to sleep. Guess she finally felt safe. Cops told me to follow them. They drove at least 80mph into the pitch darkness with her in back. All I could see was the tail lights. Til that moment, I hadn't driven faster than like 45.

We get to the psychiatric facility. Cop gets out, comes over to me and says, park over there, stand before these doors here and wait. No matter what you hear, don't move.

I do as instructed. About 10 minutes later I hear my mother somewhere screaming bloody murder. They were putting her in restraints. I step back and forth wanting to help, but it finally ends.

Silence is pounding in my adrenaline soaked ears. I hear this sound like sawing wood.

Look over and down. Homeless guy on a bench.

I checked her in. They kept her a couple weeks. She was fine after that.

@DanielChristensen Christ, what an ordeal. And she had a 'friend' feeding her ritalin? o.O Glad that everyone came out relatively unscathed.

To answer the question in your post, I treat cops like I would treat someone robbing me at gunpoint. Just do whatcha gotta do and I'll be nice and calm.
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@CountScrofula Yeah. I've got a good number of stories like this. It's been a weird life. Not hard really, 1st world problems, just weird
