Do you tend to hide your light under a bushel.

And what the fook is a 'bushel', can anyone tell me?

hi Valentine
A bushel is a measure of wheat. I guess in the olden days people hid their lights under them. Ye were a shy lot.
Best wishes
:)
ps google says: The parable is the source of the English proverb "to hide one's light under a bushel", the use of the word "bushel", an obsolete word for bowl (now relegated to usage as a unit of measure), appearing in William Tyndale's translation of the New Testament: "Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick, and it lighteth all them which are in the house."

@sogdianrock Most interesting, sogdianrock. I am sure this quaint measure was ousted by the numerous and oblivious committees in EU Brussels "just because they could". #justsayin ;) (The Brexit debate continues...)

A big basket.

@Valentine A US bushel is a measure of dry volume and equals approximately 31 litres, or 8 dry gallons. An Imperial bushel equals approximately 36 litres, or 8 Imperial gallons. A peck is also a measure of dry volume and equals 8 dry quarts in both the US and Imperial systems. There are 4 pecks in a bushel.

@SW-User ...I am just as perplexed as to what a 'peck' is (I'm sure it has more than one amorous type meaning 😊) - I have a feeling, wait for it, that Degbeme is going to put us all straight on this one too... 😳
