What would cause a co-worker you've known for years to leave (for a new job) and say no goodbyes?

Maybe they left on bad terms with the company and felt it was best to go quietly.

He or she could have been fired. They could have been upset and didn't get a chance to say good-bye. Call or email them. They would love to get some support from you. I have been in that place. And it sure wasn't comfortable.

He/ she probably was tired of everyone and didn't want to deal even with goodbyes. I've done it too lol. I felt some of my coworkers were taking advantage of me, so left without saying goodbye, never wanting to see their faces again for another minute. I didn't say goodbye even to my manager..cause she was very nice and would ask me to stay and I.didnot want to be in a situation where I couldn't say no ( feel kinda pressured), she called me next morning pissed asking what happened....I kinda miss her but never regretted leaving cause somehow I wound up doing everyone else job for a long time abd it was taking toll on me

None disclosure agreements. Avoid the issue all together.

Some kind of misunderstanding. If you were friends, someone could have been jealous and lied and said you talked behind her back. Or if you said something someone could have misunderstood what you said. I would call them and ask if they are upset and talk about it. Also share your feelings. An example is " Hi I felt so sad when you left and I hope you are ok?"

It’s always possible that they’re leaving under circumstances they’d rather not be questioned about. On the other hand, some people just find goodbyes painful and difficult.
