Am I wrong to be upset if a coworker gave my PERSONAL cell phone number to a client so that I can be contacted on a Sunday?

It has me riled up.
I am NOT on call.

It is NOT an emergency.
I do NOT need to be contacted on a Sunday for anything regarding a client.
Isn’t that illegal? To give out personal info that’s not yours? I’m sure there’s a case there.
You are right to be upset. That was unprofessional of your coworker and you should tell them so, or tell your supervisor, anyway try to make sure it won't happen again.

That is NOT okay, you have every right to be livid.
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
That is an invasion of privacy if that is your personal phone number unless that call is going to bring you a million dollars.
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
I’d confront the coworker also.@iamnikki

@Keepitsimple I don't know who the coworker is. I could have asked who gave him my number. But I will be sure to notify management.
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
You should have asked but it still needs to be addressed. It’s wrong to give out people’s personal phone numbers without permission.@iamnikki

No, your coworker was wrong.

Unless your personal number is also considered a business number, they had no right to give out your number. Someone definitely needs to be talked to about privacy and asking permission.

Sounds like a miscommunication.
I wouldn’t attach any ill intent to it.
@AthrillatheHunt You are not sufficiently paranoid. How do you expect to fit in in the Age of Trump?
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Then it totally sounds uncalled for.@iamnikki

If its your client, I mean your responsibility, then no. Its ok. I give my coworkers numbers to clients they are responsible for. I riles them up too. But its their job, gotta do it. Everyones under pressure, the person who gave your number might not have the time and patience to deal with this client, maybe because the account is yours.

@johntomSWPhd we have all been given Google numbers. My issue is you gave them my PERSONAL cell phone number.
johntomSWPhd · 36-40
@iamnikki Why did he do that?thats not good, the idea is to talk to you not intrude your rpivacy
Spokeskitties75 · 46-50, M
Yeah... I’d be pissed... and it’s probably against company policy... so they could get in trouble
Viper · M
I think it depends on a number of factors. But you should certainly be at least a little bit upset, as that's just wrong, don't be giving out other people personal stuff!

If anything, they should have took a name, number and message, and called you themselves to let you know and let you handle it when you decide to handle it.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Viper That would have been much better. Especially if the conversation started with "Sorry to bother you on Sunday"
Viper · M
@iamnikki also it depends on whom the client is, if it was an annoying client or one I didn't trust, then I'd be extra pissed.

Not OK. Did you agree to it in the first place ?

@HotDamnSam Thank you
fun4us2b · M
In a way - it's also on the client - to be wanting to call on Sunday for a non-emergency - what's up with that?
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
You have every right to be upset. Tell your supervisor. He/she will put a stop to it.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
