Thinking back to my last job, we were not allowed enough time on our shift to catch up on email about changes and new policies and procedures. We were told by grumpy trainers and assistant managers that we were supposed to be doing that between calls...and there was no "between calls".
After feeling off base and scrambled for a while, I developed the habit of coming in an hour early after my two days off...which were usually on Tuesday and Wednesday. I needed time to catch up...they refused to pay me for my time...so in order to do my job and function efficiently, I read my email before or after work.

My time is valuable so I live by lists. I want to finish my work asap so I always work from a list and the moment that anything I want to do come up then I add it to the list. It also helps to glance at the list during the day to make sure that you are on target and prioritizing the right tasks
