How do you cope with laying someone off?

This a question to people who have done this from a position of management. Honestly, I'm really struggling today and could use advice.

it all depends on whether it is because the person is not doing the job or cut backs ,,
slackers no worries you are fired for not doing your job end of story but make sure you have done your paper work ,,, cut backs are hard no matter and you could be next, you just hav eto live with it ,,

@Turtlepower you leave for a better job or the one you were at was not for you ,,
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
@oldercanuck1 I left for a job that paid more with less responsibilities. Eventually I'll dive back into a similar career choice

@HeilHitler I appreciate that. Anyone who finds laying a good team member off easy or doesn't struggle with it, shouldn't be a manager.
Good question. Most people get someone else to do it

Put your feelings to one side.Go through the process. You can feel bad about it later.Sometimes you have to do difficult things.
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
@tallpowerhouseblonde Unfortunately, that's what I did. Little did I know the pandemic would make me do it even more :/
If that is your job and you have to do it then just do it you can only do what is instructed of you and you can't feel bad over it

Tell him you'll give him a good recommendation letter if that helps.
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
@SW-User That's a good idea. I told him I'd gladly be a good reference, but this is a great idea. I'm going to offer this to him tomorrow thank you.

Did you have to fire someone today?
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
@Specialyouare I appreciate that, and I respectfully hope you're wrong. I literally told my direct report today that the day this doesn't hurt me, I'm not fit to manage.
