Shiftwork - it's a love-hate relationship
I've done shiftwork within full 25/7/365 transport operations for about 30 yrs now. It's a love-hate relationship. Every fortnight the roster is different - days off are different - shift start/finish times vary. It's mostly been in full-time permanent jobs but I did do 3 years as a casual employee (no guarantee of ongoing work from one day to the next) which was quite the experience and am back to being full-time again (with paid holidays, sick leave, long service leave).
But I'm good at my job and I like doing it.
What's your view on shiftwork and if you do shiftwork, do you like it?
In Australia, someone who is a shiftworker normally gets 5 weeks annual leave a year, but when you're not on annual leave you can work anything up to 11 days straight, have a day off, then go back to working back-to-back shifts again.
