Would you want to work with homeless people?

More specifically, finding them a place to live?

Ive been ofered a job doing just that. But I have so many questions since I interviewed the other day.

I'm nervous about the job. What if the people have behavior problem and are irate or beligerant?

I was told that I may have to transport people periodically in my own car. Then manager says I won't have to. She said she never has and has worked there 5 years. And I thought " well yeah, you're the manager"

Your thoughts?

Most of the people you will deal with will be wonderful and great. Homelessness tends to have a large population of 'temporary' homeless who are just regular people whose lives fell apart for varying reasons. That's not to say its all smiles and kittens but I think it will be satisfying interesting work.
@CountScrofula I totally get her concern though. Rape is a thing. Just saying.

@DarkHeaven 100%. I think what I'm saying is the stereotype and reality of homelessness are worlds apart. The car thing will need some exploration.

If you only help one out of the thousands of homeless you Are a success

It sounds like you are open to the idea of helping homeless people as long as you won't be inconvenienced, don't have to come in contact with them or smell them, and depending on the benefits.

@iamnikki Honey, we're online and all any of us have to go by is the words we type. And, to suggest we not draw any conclusions (which includes judgement calls) based on those words is a bit mysterious and disingenuous.

What I get from your latest words is...

So, you're willing to work with them from behind a protective glass window like they have at a bank... for your own safety, of course.

@MarkPaul I don't know why you're being sarcstic . I don't think you've been this way before with me. But it doesn't matter. you're just another faceless internet user.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@iamnikki Because you are not being honest. Thanks for sharing your judgment of me. See how it works?
I would, just be sure to clarify and have stipulations about driving them around.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Snowvixen it was in the job description that I signed. So I guess I shouldn't accept. I have to call her later with all my questions. Then I'll ask how long I have to make a decision

To succeed in that job you'll need to work on yourself. Work on fear of interaction with homeless people, on the way you perceive them.
They will know if you're worried and that will make job more difficult.

@DarkHeaven she's good to go then.

@DarkHeaven thank you

@Barrelracer1 when you have no home you often have few clothes no transportation, no one will hire a person like that, there is way more to it than people not wanting to work.

It's not as bad as it sounds. They can be pretty unmanageable at first, but once they get to know you itll get much easier interacting with them. They also love to talk. so be prepared to sit there and listen to them talk lol
I volunteer at a homeless shelter where I live and the people there are always very grateful for anything. I can’t speak to what you are doing, though. 🖤
You need to discuss what you will and wont do & theyll decide if youre even right for the job
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@DarlingSelah they already offered me the job. I'll have to call later and ask all my questions
@iamnikki I wish you the best of luck. I know you’re a really good person from the little we’ve talked and I hope they find middle ground.

Firstly well done for getting the job, but this is to time for you to ask questions and then think it over. There certainly could be problems..be careful 🤗

You had me until "I may have to transport people periodically in my own car". NOPE, not gonna happen.
MURD3RM0NK3Y · 26-30, M
Sounds a little sketchy. I would not take the job. I'm only speaking for myself though.

I wouldnt risk it if you have concerns, and those are valid concerns

It could be handy if you need to score.
