After three interviews and exam I was sure I’d get the job but then no response?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask about my situation. So basically, I’ve been interviewing with this organization. I first had two interviews, then took an exam, and then had the third interview a couple days ago. Everyone seemed to really like me and I really like them. They were even talking about the future and if locations were good for me to meet them at, etc. They also were excited about how my prior experiences would help me in this role. After the third interview the director told me that I would have a fourth interview with the CEO and then they would make the decision. She asked me if I was interviewing at other companies and i told her that I am but nothing too serious right now as I just started.
I’ve been interviewing around with other companies, but yesterday I got called with a job offer from a company that I had interviewed with months ago... I completely forgot about this company since I hadn’t heard from them in so long. The company asked me if I could give them an answer in 48 hours. So I emailed the organization that I was interviewing with and basically let them know that I received an offer, but that I really enjoyed meeting with the members in the organization and am excited to use my skills for them, and I asked them where I stand in the interview process. I also mentioned that I didn’t want to rush them in anyway and that this offer was completely unexpected.

After I emailed the recruiter this, I haven’t heard anything back and it has been over 24 hours.

Now I’m over thinking whether I should have sent the email or not... I just want to hear from you guys about your thoughts. Do you think it was a bad idea on my end to email the organization?

Geez Louise !
THAT MANY INTERVIEWS AND STILL NO DECISION ?

Tell me this is at Boardroom level ? Because if it isn't, who keeps workers hanging around like that ?

NEVER wait for an employer !
They've illustrated your 'worth' to them i think.
Time to look out for you !!

You did the right thing. You were totally up-front with them and gave them a chance to accelerate their process if they are interested in you.

@SW-User Thanks for the response.. I'm just very confused as to why they didn't even reply to my email... Do you think I should try calling? Like everything seemed to go very well until my email. lol

@gracek93 If calling would put your mind at ease then you should do it. I don't think it will change the outcome. That organization seems to be too hung up on process to make a quick decision. They have not made a commitment to you even though they know that you might soon be off the market. They may be months away from actually hiring anyone and you might not be able to wait around that long.

From the sounds of it, I think you handled it professionally. (Obviously, that depends entirely on the text in the email; but...)

@LookingForIt987 Thanks for the response.. I'm just very confused as to why they didn't even reply to my email... Like if they don't want me, at least they can just let me know to accept the other job right? Do you think I should try calling? Like everything seemed to go very well and my email was very professional and considerate.

@gracek93 The most likely reason? It doesn’t fit into their timeline to send you a reply. Companies move at their own pace - as evidence, the offer you have. You’re right that it seems reasonable to send you a reply but maybe their HR policies don’t allow it. Or their legal department doesn’t allow it. Or whatever else.

Or, my more cynical answer: people are jerks. 🤷‍♂️

you have a life to live, you can't wait on them. I think it's awful the way companies conduct themselves, often you don't get told anything.

You did great but should take the job that was offered to you. Forget the other one.
