If you call in late to work, how late is 'acceptable'?

I have an interview.
I have asked if I can interview before or after my work shift.
The answer was no.

My only option is to call in late or call out sick.

My supervisor is very lenient, however because of the short notice , she'd most likely have to run it by the mean manager.

Also, if I ask for my job to make arrangements, and I get denied and call out anyway, that's a write up.

My shift starts at 8. The earliest I can interview is 9

😕

I would have made it a sick day, I wouldn't let my current employer know I was going for an interview

@SW-User yeah I'm not saying I'm going to an interview. We also don't have sick days. Only PTO, which needs to be approved 14 days in advance. Job makes it near impossible to get stuff like this done

@iamnikki oh god well I hope you get out of there soon!
Say you have an urgent medical appointment. They can't ask you what it is because it's protected, private health information. Or just call in with flu or a stomach virus that is causing you to have severe diarrhea and vomiting. They won't want you there lol.

@quitwhendone they can ask for a doctors note
@MrBrownstone Then she should go with the stomach virus.

Really it depends on the job. I show up late to work allll the time. I'd say 4 out of 5 days of the work week I'm atleast 10 mins late. Today I showed up almost 30 mins late. They never bitch at me for it. I never call in either.

Late is not acceptable

@SW-User I understand that. That's why I put it in quotation. Never been late at this job this far

3 lates gets you a written warning where I work, and over 30 minutes late can be sent home without pay. However if you have a job interview you can go out of work to attend with no issues.
