What are your thoughts about senior staff in the workplace DEMANDING respect?

Briseis · 26-30, F
Respect is earned not demanded.

Demanding it kinda ruins the possibility of me giving it. I mean I can be respectful, but I won't respect them.

Since he’s the one in authority, I’ll give him the respect he wants but if he proves to me that he doesn’t deserve it, I can always take it back.
iMystery · M
@SW-User I always like the way you think.
Respect is to be commanded. NOT demanded. Demanding respect is foolish, selfish, and ill-advised. Commanding respect, if you're a respectable person in leadership is another story.

I've rarely seen "demanding" yeild positive results, especially in the workplace. God bless those who command rather than demand. And God help them.

God help me, as well, if my ignorance is going before my experience.

@KayraJordyn I could not have said it any better.

I’ve never been in a job with a boss I didn’t like, so idk. I have had bad coworkers, but they weren’t my senior, just acted like it.

@ShaythePanTransMan I could never stand a coworker who just assumes seniority 😖

@iMystery yeahh It’s really annoying

Most of the management don’t like me because I treat them like people and not like gods.

Old people that demand respect are like little people that want power.

My old job had an employee like this. Laziest woman I have ever met (and I wasn't alone in thinking this). But if you brought it up, HOW DARE YOU.
Meh. There are too many variables involved in this question. Would need to know more specifics.
They are egotistical buckets who let their position/authority get to their head.
iMystery · M
@InOtterWords Agreed
