What a lonnnnng meeting!
Yesterday we had a meeting with a someone who represents one of our suppliers. Everything was going well until I noticed a certain speech pattern this guy has. When in a conversation he was lucid and even carried himself as such during his presentations about the products' updates. But then when speaking about other topics he suddenly took on this other affect - his speech slowed to almost a crawl and he spoke as if he was placing periods at the end of each word..
"Well. I. remember. whennnnn. life. was. shall. we. say.....unplugged. Weeee.....didn't. have to. look. at. our. hands. to. get. our. information. or.....remind. us. what. we....had. to. do....today."
At first I thought he was having a stroke and a couple of others made eye contact with me as if to ask "should we call 911?" but then he'd respond to another topic with the same lucidity he displayed earlier. It happened three (3) times during this meeting and on the third time he went into a lengthy monologue. I started giggling to distract myself otherwise I would have leaped across the desk and choked him while screaming "SHADDDUP!!"
Actually I knew what he was doing. He was attempting to lull us into a sense of comfort and familiarity by talking in a 'down home' manner. He was fairly new to this business so it for his sake more than ours. Even when one of us would start talking to him he'd slip back into the molasses-in-winter style of delivery.
I began making a mental list of everything I need to do for the day, next day, next week; what to have for lunch, dinner; reminding myself to get the car washed..so on and so forth. I got a lot done.
Finally time was up and everyone walked out, including the rep.
