Do you like conference calls?

We have a daily one at work, because people are all spread out across the world. Normally there's 8 or 9 of us. Today multiple people couldn't make it. It ended up just being the three of us that sit in the office, and one person who doesn't understand what we do. Was a bit awkward

I’m not a huge fan of conference calls. Especially routine ones. Some twenty years ago, I worked for a nonprofit agency that received huge sums of money from the defense department to develop a videoconference center. This conference center was supposed to be a source of rental revenue, but nobody ever seemed to demand using it, and it only seemed as though people were just playing around on the program.

@JavaJoe That sounds like government spending all over the world!

@UpsideOutInsideDown Agreed!!! I was happy the day I walked out of there for the last time. 😉

Did you all sit next to each other in the call? 😆

@SW-User Yes! It was so awkward. We could have just all turned 45 degrees in our chair and not bothered with Skype, but every other tosspot didn't tell us they weren't joining

@UpsideOutInsideDown 😂
I love that visual.

@SW-User Lots of side glances to say "Should we hang-up?" but no one actually saying it out loud for some reason

We usually have twice a week and once in a while going through some webinars with participants across the globe and I like it. It's interesting how technology can bring people together and make business decisions easier.

Why was it awkward? Was it more awkward than the equivalent meeting would have been if everyone had to attend in person?

You could have used the time to explain to the other person what you do.

I dislike conference calls as well
