What you're describing is welfare. And the answer is no, a lot of people on welfare choose not to work, because they have food on the table and a roof over their head.

But what happens then is that no one moves up. No one works hard to better their life and have their wants as well as their needs, or they choose to indulge their wants instead of focusing on the needs of their family.

The only way to better your life is to work for it. So the correct answer is to choose to work and not rely on the govt.

The problem with working for a living is that you're constantly at the whim of your employer.
Just as our Great Grandparents were ! So in that regard life today is probably just as hard since governments love to court businesses but not people !

Of course. Maybe not. Could I stay home and raise a family and still get cash? That would be awesome. Or dad could be a stay-at-home dad. Be like the old days when children was raised by a village.
