If you had extra to give. PTO is paid time off

Like to a co-worker who was sick and had no more PTO...or for them to take care of a sick family member..etc

I didn't even know this was possible until yesterday...

I didn't do it because I couldn't designate it to the ones who I wanted to, the university put it in a pool and decided who and how much to give to. Otherwise, yes I would have done it.

@iamnikki My department made separate rules where if we used 24 hours in a 3-month period without giving prior notice they would write us up...3 write-ups in a row and we'd be terminated. Plus they cut back on the amount of employees making a bigger workload and then would give excuses for not letting us take all our hours. We had separate vacation and personal leave time but even getting vacation approved was sometimes like pulling teeth.

@cherokeepatti oh i see. Made it difficult

@iamnikki and some used every bit, extended illness or several surgeries, etc.

I might donate cash, but I'd go crazy without my hard earned vacation time.
I have been with the company a long time .. have a ton of vacation .. to help a work friend in need, sure ..

@Stillwaiting how much you have?

iamnikki · 31-35, F

So glad I dont work in a corporate setting. Once i become a master of my trade I'll be making my own hours and my own vacation time 😁

@Eternity thats the way to go 👍

I work hard for my PTO and don't get that much of it to start with so I don't normally have any leftover at the end of the year.
some jobs do allow for it - and if it was a death or a medical issue then - yes I would .

That would be charity. But If I had more I would give
NoSugar · 22-25, F
thats kinda bullshit if a company has that as people get peer pressured into donating.

the fuckign company should give the person who needs the time the extra time and not abuse the co workers
@NoSugar That is why as a general rule - always do your job - BUT never be loyal to any company they will and have the means to kick you when you are down. So beat them to it. Example, if yo are planning to quit leave when it is the busiest time and just call in sick every day - go out on stress the company can't touch you if you do that - at least that was the case with a coworker that I knew. He took advantage of the system.

I probably wouldn’t. It’s such a stupid concept. Let them take care of what they need and work it out once they get back.

That’s what a good company should do.
