3rd answer. Assuming you don’t want to go.

It’s professional and tactful.

If your really want to make headway however, this could be a perfect opportunity to rub elbows with those that can help further your career.

Just don't go.

You suck it up ,look and act your best and go
I liked the third option but i’n Not sure how difficult boos can be...

Go. It’s one night out of your life and you might make some acquaintanceships that turn out to be valuable. Don’t get drunk and don’t take anyone with who’ll get drunk. (See Blind Date with Bruce Willis and Kim Basinger)

@Mamapolo2016 Good advice.

When I worked for others, I attended any function required of me, unless one of my kids was sick; then I didn't even go to work. Kids come first, so go ahead and fire me. I can always find another job, but kids? Not so easily found.

I am going for number 3. Not showing up is always suspicious even if you have a valid reason.

just visit it and later leave early.
The best part of my organisation heads is that they give ample freedom to take personal decisions and are open minded.
