While I might welcome the opportunity to learn some new skills, I would first like to know the amount of time between rotations. Also, if I failed in a particular task/department, would that be cause for dismissal or a poor review at raise time?
The company I had worked for always had ulterior motives when introducing something like this so I tend to be skeptical and suspicious. In my opinion, very rarely does a company initiate something decent for the employee unless the company benefits at least twice as much.

@IM5688 I learned something. Thank you for this beneficial comment.

@Madeleine Happy to share my opinion with you. I hope I didn't come off too negative. I try to look at both sides from both sides too much sometimes.

I think it’s a brilliant idea. I actually trained people in software development who were brought in from other areas.

I didn’t think it was a waste of time. Those people certainly gained appreciation for what I did and how much requirements and testing mattered to me and the company.

@SW-User Sounds ideal.

They did this at my job a few years ago but they did it for cross training purposes in case someone had to take time off for work unexpectedly

@KaysHealingPath Good idea.
Id think they were trying to take advantage of me. Pass.

I would wonder if my company's stock would soon plummet, as incompetents were put into management, systems crashed when customer service was placed into IT, and managers discovered it is very difficult to live on the wages earned by their underlings.

@4meAndyou Some roles should never be rotated.

@Madeleine So true! LOL!!!

@SENSME I would take the opportunity regardless of the company's motives.

I am presuming that the management is intelligent and that they have done the needed investigation/research for the appropriateness of the job rotations.
It could be the best approach for some businesses and a bit innovative in approach.

@Pfuzylogic True.
Depends on why, if they are doing it to see if I am better at it than others and will give me the new role as a result I am for it.

@Subsumedpat Either way, learning is never a waste of time.
@Madeleine No but I can also see someone doing rotations so that everyone gets a chance to do the "good jobs" and that is something people should be doing because they earned it not to make everyone happy, so I guess I am saying it all depends on the motivation behind it, if it is to educate like you say then that is good.

I would have liked that if it was voluntary of the roles.

depending on the company and the culture this is an excellent advancement opportunity - you can add your experiences / accomplishments to your resume promoting your availability to take on new challenges and multi-task. employers love this and bosses use this when trying to find new talent and people to promote

@tenente Exactly.
