I Want To Talk About Community

I've been wondering about this for awhile..
Why is there a Black history month, and not White history month.?
Why is there a Miss Black America, but the Miss America is for all races?
There are Black Food Festivals.
There are Scholarships just for the black.
And why is Presidents Day for all Presidents, but MLK has his own day, but wasn't a president? I realize he was a big part of Black history, but I don't think he should get his own Day.
Sorry if all this offends anyone, I'm just curious.

Typically white history is pretty much covered by history being televised most any time.

Ms. Black America began in 1968, sixteen years before the first Ms American who was black and well before they were allowed to enter the pageant. From the 1930's until 1971 the Miss America Pageants criteria were that "contestants must be of good health and of the white race." Therefore at the time of it's founding the Miss America Pageant was not for all races.

There are food festivals for every ethnic group you can imagine.

Scholarships for black students were originally intended to boost diversity and provide a select few minority students the opportunities to advance their education. Yet you can provide scholarships to whomever you choose if you fund them.

Presidents Day is to honor George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, not all presidents.

Martin Luther King Jr. is considered a civil rights leader more so than a black leader. We all have civil rights and all benefit from them.

I am not offended but do wish that you looked this information up yourself because it would be far more beneficial had you read it from the sources.

A better question would have been why is there a Columbus Day, or Shark Week?

The fact that they come here in large numbers for the purpose of getting a ‘better‘ life speaks volumes. @Dominus

@Spoiledbrat Indeed it does as it is the same reason we all came here or our ancestors did.

You have every right to query it and rightly so its true .Same as when a black person is mugged by anyone there is outrage .However you dont get protests and outrage when it happens to someone white .When all those young girls were being abused by asians where was the protest ?There wasnt any .All those poor cops that were injured or killed during the protest and an old guy an innocent civilian there was no outrage .
I will tell you why because those in power and ordinary civilians that were outraged by the violence and unrest would have had their homes attacked if they dare speak out .I have some figures here which the blacks dont want you to see so I will show you .Very few blacks are injured and killed by whites .They have a bad rep because it is nearly always black on black .[image deleted]These are the figures they dont want you to see because its got to be a white mans fault .
Rhodesianman · 56-60, M
@Dominus Thats over all the killings in the uk .What their saying is that overall blacks killed by whites is about 2 percent ,blacks killed by police is 1 percent these arnt the figures that most matter , the figure that most matters is the blacks killed by blacks is 97 percent .Black people are always screaming about being persecuted for the colour of their skin but figures disprove this as apart from about 3 percent black killings are black on black .What their trying to prove and say is , Its not persecution its fact . If you want to be treated as equals then stop acting like savages because by doing so you fuel the fire and feed white supremacist groups with all the ammunition they need to say look these people arnt equal they are still savages etc . Blacks are the cause of their own persecuation and this needs to change .Its blacks that have to stop this and the only way to do this is stop the silent wall .If you see crime being committed or know where criminals are hiding etc help the police take the scum off the streets .By staying silent remember you are making things worse .Do you want future generations to still be fighting persecution because you were to scared to speak out .

@Rhodesianman What I am asking is "whites killing blacks is about 2 percent" Of What? Do those whites killing blacks include the white police officers? This is why I asked for the source because that graphic is too vague and contains nothing of value. Such as the fact it is in the UK as opposed to the US. If it is to be taken literally and to mean 2% of all who were killed then it would appear not a single black or single white person in the UK has been killed by a Latino, Indian, Asian, etc.. which seems entirely unlikely. Further more you cropped the top of that graphic for a reason and I wonder what else it showed?
Rhodesianman · 56-60, M
@Dominus It didnt include figures for other races it was just to prove a point .The way B.L.M come across makes it sound like blacks seem to think their being picked on far more than others just because of their colour .In the uk this is not true at all it only seems it because in the cities especially where there is a large black population most of the crimes are committed by blacks on blacks , the only reason it is hardly heard about is because it cant be said its racially motivated .Its the same with most races but its only ever blacks getting arrested by white cops or blacks dieing in custody that makes the news , because the minute it happens its got to be about race .It cant be the fact their guilty of a crime resisted arrest and police were forced to use force to arrest them and it just so happened a white cop got over zelous and the guy died as a result .NO ITS GOT TO BE BECAUSE HE WAS BLACK . George Floyd was a perfect example "He committed a crime resisted arrest and an over zelous cop who might have been racist was a bit heavy handed and he died as a result .No where during the protests has anyone ever said hang on a minute he was a criminal who resisted arrest .Their all making him out to be pure as driven snow who was picked on for the colour of his skin which is bollocks .
I've pondered this myself more times than I can count on both hands.

But not just for this, for all so-called 'holidays' too, especially those that make absolutely no damn sense.

Thing is, I have an all-inclusive answer. You're likely not going to like it.

CAPITALISM.

Because having a white history month, or whatever other example, assumes that the playing field is equal to start with, which it isn't. Every month was white history month, because for pretty much all of history, it was written and taught by white men, with a pretty eurocentric point of view. It had to be a conscious effort to try and set some time aside to think about black history instead. The same reason that there is an international women's day but not an international men's day. The whole world was and still is focused on men, so surely they can spare one day that isn't focused on them. It doesn't mean they are missing out on a day for themselves.
I don't know much about Miss America competitions, but I would imagine if they are like similar things I can think of, and with standards of beauty being as they are in a lot of the west, it would be a pretty homogeneous selection of people, and predominantly white, so it makes sense to me that black people would want some place they could feel like they had more of a chance at being represented.
That's how I see it anyway I hope that is helpful.

Forgive me but the smart-a$$ answer is "every day is white people's day"...we got it made man!....easy street!....piece of cake!...I don't have a care in the world!...I don't need a day, every day is a celebration of me!!!!
Ok - sorry...I'm done.

I guess if a large percentage of your ancestors-- Great grandparents and even grandparents in some cases--- were enslaved, lynched, raped, and denied even having a history or identity other than an identity connected to their value as a servant maybe you'd see it different. If your grandma was drinking from a different water fountain in the 60's because of her skin color maybe you'd see it different. If your grandfather was denied a regular education, maybe you'd see it differently. If your family didn't have resources to fall back on because they were locked in generational poverty, maybe you'd see it differently. These things are about protections and about equality. Trying to ensure equality and fairness. As for scholarships, research the UNCF for yourself and see why it was started. It isn't some conspiracy to keep white people down. As for Martin Luther King- His actions resulted in establishing rights and freedoms and more equality for the entire African American population. His bravery in the face of constant death threats (that ultimately resulted in him losing his life btw) is something that should be honored forever. He and his movement changed the entire trajectory of American history for the better.

@brokensignal whites were slaves too.
We might just be and in that way are privileged but we struggle too yes. We don’t all have it made and we haven’t all,of us benefited from racial bias. Some of us don’t have crap and resent the people that get it for free judt because of the color of their skin.
Dominus · 31-35, M
@Spoiledbrat Not once in my life have I ever claimed or heard anyone else claim that "everyone is bigoted, racist and or privileged." Therefore I don't understand the purpose of this comment directed to me which you did not address directly to me but instead added my name to the end of?
That ‘is’ adding to you. I just put the curser in front. I’ve been here for 4 years and that’s how I’ve always done it.

Anyway just because someone experiences something troubling doesn’t mean everyone one who didn’t experience it should be made to feel bad because of it or like they are a bad person for it. And it doesn’t mean they haven’t experienced bad things. @Dominus
Dominus · 31-35, M
@Spoiledbrat Thank you for clarifying.
MLK spoke out and made change. White people just are apparently. We do have Scottish festivals and stuff. It’s not national. It is important to remember all cultures. America was built off of Puritan or white people ideals. Now we try to honor all backgrounds. That’s why we do that.

The way it looks to me is .. Begging for equality through excessive praise .. Kinda like HYPE .. I tend to give credit and shy away from praise because i do things for the right reasons... Vs Money and Fame 🧐

I have been to many white ethnic festivals so what is wrong with a black food festival?

Why a Black History Month? Because for generations black history was suppressed along with other nonChristian nonwhite nonEuropean history.
Is MLK day bad but Columbus day is good?
jim44444 · 70-79, M
@Spoiledbrat I have spent 70 years as a white male in the USA and I know that white privilege exists. I have used it to better my lot in life for my family and myself. Just because we have outlawed segregation does not mean that racial equality exists. No more than gender equality exists.
It is not a matter of believing someone is better than you, it is knowing that you are as good as them but they are given deference and privilege because of some racial characterizations. And yes I would be rude to them.
I personally did nothing to anyone. I have always been nice to people. My long time friend s black. She had a problem with white people. It was like she blamed us ALL for something we all did not fo. Do if you want to male progress with equality admit you’re own wrongs or stop treating whites poorly. @jim44444
And you made no comment in regard to what I said about efforts made to achieve equality. @jim44444

[c=#4C0073]why must there be an international women's day .. but no man's day?[/c]

Because of racism and the culture of European colonialism that still is built on White Supremacy and dominance. 🙂
You’re an ignorant fool or a racist. Either way, thanks for the heads up.
Bye.
