European ppl Call their country *A STATE*

Its very confused for ppl from North America, hearing ppl from Europeans to refer to their country's as a *State* !
Country is a country
State is a state...
If its a state why country is in? But they call their country's a state. very confusing!

From dictionary.com
state
[steyt]
noun
...
a politically unified people occupying a definite territory; nation.
the territory, or one of the territories, of a government.
(sometimes initial capital letter)any of the bodies politic which together make up a federal union, as in the United States of America.
the body politic as organized for civil rule and government (distinguished from church).
the operations or activities of a central civil government:
affairs of state.
I'd normally say state to mean the government or political/judicial body.

I was saying, the current make up of convicted criminals in prison doesn't support a refugee led crimewave.

I give you an analysis of uk government data you give me a YouTube video. I know what I will prefer to believe

@SW-User no you're just delusional. You make no fkin sense! Criminals dont support refugees? Ohhh yah thats make a lot of difference. for ppl behind bars to be trying to make a difference by their interest when they themselves are locked up.
when the first line of defensive, its own citizens like are totally delusional.

"political organization of a country, supreme civil power, government," c. 1300, from special use of state (n.1); this sense grew out of the meaning "condition of a country" with regard to government, prosperity, etc. (late 13c.), from Latin phrases such as status rei publicæ "condition (or existence) of the republic."

its because you consider the entirety of north america to be 1 country but its technically about half of a bloody continent officially they might be states but they are countries where you live in a state here works fine
