Have you ever purposely choose a flight with a long layover?

For the purpose of getting another small trip for "free"?

I was looking at travel videos since I'm not gonna travel anytime soon, and it was a suggestion.

Have you ever done this?

No. I’m not sitting in an airport longer than I have to.

@Keepitsimple but you won't be sitting in the airport. The point is to explore the city in which the layover is in
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
@iamnikki But I want to get to where I’m going so I can really vacation, lol.

@Keepitsimple 😁 I've only been to two states, so I'll do what I can to see more places cheaply
the only layover I like is when Alan calls me back to bed for seconds

When I took a trip to Hawaii with my family a few years ago, I purposefully stopped a day in San Francisco to see a few things. It wasn't really a layover though, so I don't think it counts.

When I travel for work though, I absolutely choose flights with long layovers, but not long enough to actually get out and explore, sadly. One, the company will pay for the cheapest flight, so non-stop flights are usually "too expensive" for their wallet. Two, company policy is to pay for my time from the moment I arrive at the departing airport until I check in at the hotel, so I will actually get paid for sitting in an airport for two hours doing nothing. Strangely enough, when you factor that part in, it actually costs the company more to pay me for sitting around than it does to just book a non-stop flight. I've tried to explain that, but they don't seem to care, so I'm cool with it.

@FaeLuna lol wow. Yes jobs can be irrational sometimes. Thanks for sharing
Yes. It's actually not bad

@PrivateHell how long? Where'd you go? What did you do?
@iamnikki had an 18 hour layover in Chicago once. Went to see the sites for a while
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@PrivateHell oo I think that's too long. I'd say 5 hours would be ideal. Especially if you already have in mind where u wanna go

Yes. Spent a day in London once on the way from the US to South Africa.

Sure, from time to time you have no choice. But I’ve never gotten a free flight out of it.

No but what a great idea

It depends , do you have a place to keep your luggage ? Because if you have a hand bag that will be a problem, it gets uncomfortable to walk around the city with 20 lbs on your back.

No. I hate flying but love traveling. Now is a great time. I just flew 9 hours away round trip for 98usd.
I covered up, wore my mask, sanitized and my mom and I were A-ok.
Layovers suck. You are so tired from rushing. Not enough time to enjoy much of anything. These days getting in and out of the airport takes so long but I have spent a day at a huge airport before. Eating, getting massage
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@REMsleep that's a great deal. I've only taken one flight in my life. Only 2 hours and it was too long for me.b3cause I have chronic pain. It took us just a few minutes to get thru security. It was literally less than 10 people in front of us.
