Do you think Americans are really racist like movies picture them?

indyjoe · 56-60, M
There are racists and racist activities in America, no one denies that fact...but the majority of Americans are not racist, nor does it go to the extent that movies, television, and other forms of media portray it to be. In fact a lot of it is exaggerated or even made up to back up a point/claim or to fuel a cause, and it has gotten way out of hand.
Hollywood isn't about accurately portraying life, it's about making money. I wouldn't base my judgements of anybody based on what the media has told me. The best way to get to know what people are like is to talk to them.

Um, movies picture current Americans as racist? Or you talking about movies that portrayed the past?

Though movies usually are artist and exaggerated for the sake of simplified story telling..

Some are and some aren't just like other people around the world.

No. Segregated yes. But I think Europeans are overtly racists. Monkey chants in stadiums directed to black Soccer players, that's only in Europe.

I think race is culturally a very big thing more so than other places there i've noticed, in that its talked about a lot. I don't know about rac-ist though.

It would be an over generalization that doesn't demonstrate the entire populace.
