What was Anthony Bourdain depressed about?

@DownTheStreet I know my question wasn't worded in the best way. He was seemed to be so generous with his thoughts that I was thinking "given what we know.." Honestly, I like many of us, could see edges of weariness about him that's been there for a long time. I'm sure he was often lonely, disconnected from loved ones, and his drinking made him feel more depressed.

@zeeva70 Like so many brilliant creative people, he was cursed with the disease -- and it killed him.

@SW-User I don't agree.. science is making enormous strides in the area of mental health.. I am looking forward to a day, we can have some direction/answers..

@SW-User I think he's always has felt depressed or for a long time. He's been through a lot. Although the situation with his girlfriend was unpleasant, I'm thinking feeling lonely on the road [with no end in sight], disconnected from loved ones, questioning why does this [life] all matter, and drinking had far greater of an impact. Also, not sure if he excerised, took meds, and much of the time his diet wasn't healthy.

@bijouxbroussard His drinking and lonliness on the road probably made him feel worse.

@zeeva70 True, and the drinking was probably him “self-medicating”, as many depressives do.

@Mondayschild I read all about it and saw the pictures of her holding hands, etc with the younger man (he's not a kid) in his final days. Although I read they had an open relationship and it probably hurt, his drinking probably made him feel worse.

@Sourdad Because I loved his work and he's missed.
