Don't know about "unusual" but I did spend this past summer on an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer in the Pacific. Does that count?

I went to this island in Malaysia, it had no electricity or running water. Was amazing though, and beautiful.

Ghost towns in Australia, Hell in Norway, a tiny village in India, a sunflower field in Tuscany, ..... I have so many to choose from
