I Love Jazz

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPJxjNQDmkA]

One hundred years ago today, jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie was born in Cheraw, South Carolina.

Gillespie is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time. He was also a pioneer in the creation of bebop, the first modern style of jazz, and a major influence in the development of Afro-Cuban jazz in the late 1940s.

Dizzy Gillespie passed away in 1993, but his influence and contributions to the world of jazz endure.

I’ve posted Dizzy Gillespie’s 1953 rendition of “I Can’t Get Started”. I think it’s absolutely lovely.

@bijouxbroussard That's really cool. It must have been thrilling to see him perform live, along with Mongo Santamaria.
