I Love Poems

When the thunder breaks
I swallow my words to keep from lying
I bite my tongue to keep from telling
Of the hole that stretches from coast to coast

When the thunder breaks
I keep telling the same old story
Tell it like I still believe
It’s still the same old rain

When the thunder breaks
I cling on to the stain of us
Like a crack in the wall, growing bigger with time
I’m just a boy with his face in the mud

When the thunder breaks
I’m feeling empty handed
But scars who leave me breathless
I hold them close with open arms
