How will European football sort out the Coronovirus fixture cancellation?

They had to do this to stop mass gatherings and when the Arsenal head coach has been diagnosed positive, you have to isolate the players too.

This creates huge logostical probkems because we are three quarters the way through a crowded srason. Unless we are back up and running in three weeks (highly unlikely) then a weird solution will have to be found.

Some have talked about moving the European Championship international tournament forward to next summer, which would maybe allow the club teams more time to finish the season but what if the lock down lasts a few months?

You could keep the results as they stand as existing league tables though that would deny teams in contention the chance to get promotion, avoid relegation or win a title. You could cancel the season results but that would be even worse and mean lots of work has been for nothing. Liverpool have waited thirty years for a league title and are miles top of the premiership, for example. Though if results stand, teams have had less time to compete. There is no really fair or easy answer.

Your thoughts?

There's no fair way to do it.

Those currently top 3-4 in their respective leagues might well like the table to stand as it is with the rest of the season cancelled.

But then the bottom 3-4 clubs would (unless logistically impossible)quite rightly complain that they were denied the chance to avoid the drop !

So logically the only 'fair' way to do it would be to cancel the season altogether.

Of course then you'll have UEFA complain that they can't run the Champions League nor the EUROPA league next season as a result !

@Picklebobble2 But then all the top teams dont get a title and the promotion teams lose out.

I think cancel the playoffs and peomote relegate two.

@Burnley123 However they do it, somebody won't be happy.

@Picklebobble2 I agree that there is no fair way of doing it. Depending on what happens, they might finish the fixtures in winter and reduce the next season.

Hopefully we get to resume the season and this decision doesn't have to be made. I have no idea what they should do if the season can't be played. Obviously I don't want the season to be void and I want the teams on top to be crowned champions. All because my team is on top though. Don't think there's one right answer to this.

I think if the football season is cancelled , then the tables have to stay as they are, no relagations or promotions, the only dead certs in premeirship was liverpool winning it , and norwich being relegated ,

You put all the stats thus far in to football manager 2020 and simulate the rest of the season lol
