Do you think exercising for over 2 hours, 4 or 5 times a week is too much?

I'm used to do exercises for a little over two hours per session from monday to thursday and saturdays / sunday (just one of those two days)
Too much? 🤔🤸‍♂️
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
It's just fine.I work out with weights for 2 hours for 4 consecutive days and go for a swim after each workout,then rest for 2 days.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@tallpowerhouseblonde it's like the Spanish inquisition... No one ever expects it! 😜
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@ozgirl512 Hon I do from you...
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@tallpowerhouseblonde dam... You saw straight through me!

I'd like to give you an answer, but you're the one who's in your body. You should compare your experience to the symptoms of overtraining.

@BlueVeins thank you!
lily88mercy · 26-30, F
You probably already know that you don't need to do this much exercise for good health. However, if you are committed to body building or supporting a competitive athletic skill.....it may just be the minimum. You really want good advice? Go to a sports trainer with a degree in exercise physiology.
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@lily88mercy I train for health And to avoid anxiety... But now I think i'm stuck, not gaining muscle, not burning that pound of fat I need to loose
lily88mercy · 26-30, F
@Lostinthe80s well, amigo, you just stated the case for consulting an expert. Your specific goals and needs deserve excellent guidance and not the off-the-shelf opinions of a chat site.
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@lily88mercy well I think here... there are people who know what they do
realrare · 51-55, F
I got my own personal slave driver that makes me exercise 1.5 to 2.5 hours per night 5 - 6 nights a week!!!! It hasn't killed me yet, you'll live!!! 😂
Fitdom · 31-35, M
@Platinum im into fitness, yes, but strength means more than having huge muscles imo
Platinum · M
That's good....so much nicer than big muscles...@Fitdom
Fitdom · 31-35, M
@Platinum well it works out
easterniowegin · 51-55, M
Depends on the "exercises" that are done. There are different types and levels of fitness, and their impact on your body depends on your desired end result.
Also keep in mind that as you age, your body will react differently to your workout routine than ur does today.
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@easterniowegin I'm just trying to mantain tone... To he honest I'm not stretching, I think that is part of the problem... What do you suggest?
easterniowegin · 51-55, M
@Lostinthe80s 20-30 mins of cardio is typically sufficient, if you aren't training for something specific. Then maybe if you incorporate some stretching after your workout, after you're warm, you can minimize lactic acid, increase flexibility, and improve range of motion in your joints.
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@easterniowegin Thank you very much I have not thought about that, I'm not used to do that but it's time to start today!!!
Lostpoet · M
Yes, but I'm stuck on a similar routine. As long as it's not getting I the way of other life obligations then I think you are safe foing it. You can take one of those days and just go on an hour or two run in the morning instead of hitting the gym.
Lostpoet · M
@Lostinthe80s I think you should think in terms of your BMI and not your weight. You could be just gaining extra muscle. A little fat is good for you dude.
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@tallpowerhouseblonde what do you think?
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@Lostpoet you are right, well I think I have enough muscle, but I want to loose about one or two pounds on my waist, that's all.
SW-User
I dunno. My bf works out Monday-Saturday for 2-3 hours.
Lostpoet · M
@Lostinthe80s Lol. I think you have me on mute dude.
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@Lostpoet Nope
Platinum · M
@SW-User has he got muscular doing it that often....muscle grows while you rest so I think he don't need as much...
Eternity · 22-25, M
That's a great way to get dainty.

If you're trying to pack on muscle though then yeah that is way too much unless you stop for a substantial snack in the middle of each session.
Eternity · 22-25, M
@tallpowerhouseblonde yeah that's what I said. You've got to eat enough to make the training mean something
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@Lostinthe80s They were doing it right.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@Eternity and the right food too.
SW-User
Nah. I used to exercise 7 times a week for two-three hours a day. That was when I was losing weight. Now I'm going three times a week, next week, I wanna start doing five. It's better than sitting around, right? You just need to be careful and take care of your body.
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@SW-User you are young
SW-User
@Lostinthe80s Eh, there are older people that are doing some crazy shit. I don't really think you're too old to exercise.
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@SW-User Right!!
Lostpoet · M
@Lostinthe80s ok, I just noticed you were talking to lissa.
Depends on your objectives, are you body building or amping for fat lose? Maybe training for endurance?
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@Teggy Endurance and fat lose
@Lostinthe80s then Sir you are on the right path 😄
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@Teggy 💪🥵
Synyster · 51-55, M
I always wonder what people do in the gym for two hours. I workout 4-5 days a week. Monday chest and abs 1 hour, Tuesday Biceps & legs 1 hour give or take. Wednesday off, Thursday Shoulders and abs 1 hour and 15 minutes. Friday off. Saturday Triceps and Back and Sunday (not always) Cardio and abs.

You need to rest (days off) to recuperate and gain mass/muscles. You build when your body rests.

I see a guy working his biceps three times a week for a year and has nothing to show.
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@Synyster thanks for answering!
Synyster · 51-55, M
@Lostinthe80s You're welcome man.
Platinum · M
Much too much, you don't give your muscles time to repair...four times a week for two hours is plenty ...
brian29715 · 46-50, M
Don’t think it’s too much at all, if you have the time, desire, and physically able.
Tminus6453 · M
You'll know if you're overtraining
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@Tminus6453 I'm feeling tired... But if I don't train is worse
Tminus6453 · M
@Lostinthe80s Thats not acknowledging your overtraining symptoms... you should research what they are and pay attention to them, being overtrained is counterproductive
Lostinthe80s · 36-40, M
@Tminus6453 Right!
