@NoodleDoodle OK, you get the basic concept I assume. Throw a big heavy ball down a long wooden lane and knock over the pins at the other end. Most, well all really, experienced bowlers throw what's called a "hook". That is the ball is released with spin so it curves. If the bowler hooks it just right the ball goes all the way to the very edge of the lane and curves back into a spot called the 'pocket' and all ten pins go down together. That's called a 'strike'

If you miss a little though, the ball goes over the edge of the lane into something called the 'gutter', and you don't hit any pins at all and people point and laugh at you when it happens. It can be a little hurtful... Speaking from experience. I would like to replace the gutter with something like a half pipe so I could hook the ball off the pipe instead of going in the gutter!
