The champions league has been boring for a long time with the same teams almost every year and all from a few countries.

Wouldn't it be better if it kept more to its name and let more champions in automatically instead of as many teams as possible from the few richest leagues? Maybe we would have more upsets and enjoy it like we used to?

I don't disagree, but unfortunately things are more likely to go the other way. If you did an accumulator to pick the champions of France, Italy and Germany you'd probably get pretty weak odds for Psg, Juve and Bayern. Spain has a top three who are a lot better than the rest of their league and likewise England has a big six.

There is just concentration on consentration of wealth and talent. The biggest teams in the biggest leagues are a cut above everyone else. So a European super league could happen eventually, though I really don't want it.

Though the average premiership sides can't compete with their domestic big boys, they still have enough cash to buy the best players from bigger clubs in smaller leagues. Everton can buy the Ajax captain and keep him in the bench for a year. Fulham can bid for Celtic's best players. This doesn't seen right.

Burnley and Aberdeen are similar sized clubs in terms of support and stadium size but Aberdeen fans were telling us that they get about five million in TV money for finishing second in Scotland. Burnley got 120 mill for finishing seventh in England. So we might be minnows in the EPL but they see us as mega rich fancy dans. On the pitch the difference was closer but we could go and buy any Aberdeen player if we wanted.

I don't have an answer for this because it's all driven by market forces and what consumers want. A baseball style salary cap, where the biggest teams in Europe pay a redistributive income tax, would be a good solution but it will never happen.

You could go for your champ league suggestion but that wouldn't stop the commercial power of the mega clubs or the huge TV power of the biggest leagues.

@Burnley123 I understand it all I just wish Uefa cared that their big tournament isn't must see anymore. I only really watch the final and the 6 Celtic games. Sky sports didn't care about keeping it as the Premier League is a far bigger deal than it now.

It's also just making the gap between the top few leagues and the rest bigger which is not good for football overall. Especially when the bubble finally bursts for for the top teams and the premier league particularly.

Some (including the Celtic higher ups who have really got behind it) have called for another Uefa competition for the champions and runners up of the leagues they don't care about during the summer. This will just create two shit tournaments. One that is the heavyweights meaning all hype and a boring product and one with the cruiserweights who might have good matches but it won't have the hype and nobody will care.

At the very least can the get rid of the champions in the name?😂

That would be the logical thing but it’ll never happen ;-;
