What do you think of England's World Cup Squad?

Personally I think Southgate had got it about right.

The players have been picked to fit his plan: which is a passing team playing 3-4-3. Walker can play wide centre back and we need his pace and experience there. Our full back options are solid and there is an emphasis on pacy wide attackers.

I like that he hasn't put square pegs in round holes and that he's not afraid to drop big names. Hart deserved to be dropped because he's been awful, though other England managers would still have kept him. For Southgate, the collective comes over star power and Manchester United's Chris Smalling is dropped because he doesn't fit the system.

No offense to the Spurs fans on here but I think Deli Ali should not start because A) he has been average this season and B) the formation works best with two wide attackers and centre mids who can tackle. So that leaves Ratchford and Lingaard to fight for the place alongside Kane and Sterling in attack. And the attack looks decent.

Just to be clear, England and not World Cup contenders. Our defense and midfield are too average to beat a super power like Germany, Spain or Brazil. I think quarter final would be a good result and it's achievable. With a young squad and the junior teams doing well, we will have a better team in four years.

Feels very much like he knows his starting xi and just picked similar players as fresh legs to come on later on. Good having a a style but I don't think they are going to be as good a passing team as they will need to be and he hasn't picked anyone of a different style. No Shelvey to just take it and put it up the park if England need a goal. No big man to put up top in the same situation. Look at the attackers and how different are most of them? England do need to cultivate a style but without the ability to adapt they will end up a poor imitation of some barca teams when they could only try and walk it into the net. Nice to see someone unbiased agrees with me on Dele Ali馃槀. I swear though every 4 years I hear you all say next time with the youth talent coming through we will be better.

Tierney, Armstrong, McGregor and Forrest on his day are also better than anyone at Burnley. Not to mention we have a real leader.

@thatscottishguy Burnley have a team of leaders and two of the best four UK goalkeepers.

A team of leaders would all be shouting over each other and ok on gk but was thinking outfield

Thanks for the reminder. I must get the office sweepstake organised.

I like the squad too, and am pleased Southgate didn't feel pressured to take players, unlike Sven when he chose Theo Walcott over Defoe (still makes me mad)

I think Lingaard has the edge over Alli, but Alli and Kane work well together.

I'd be happy with quarter finals

@InOtterWords I Ali is a better player but including him would distort the balance and weaken us in defense. Southgate probably had him there as plan B.

It would be different if Ali had played well this season and he is potentially a world 11 standard player but he drifts in and out of games. Goals and assists are about half what they were last season. I think Kane and Eriksson have kind of carried him at times.

Ali does look like he has a big ego and bit of lazyness. If he wants to reach his potential, he needs to sort it out.

@Burnley123 he hasn't been the same this season, I agree, but his moments of brilliance have been beautiful. Maybe not being first choice is enough to egg him on
